2007 Topps Jeter #40

Ok, not asking for a price, because I already know and have known that it's around $5. However, I have been trying to complete the 2007 topps base set (30 cards shy) and only use rack packs. I have pulled 2 #40 Jeter's in the past week from these packs. I thought Topps had already cut off production of this card a month ago?, and if so then is the stuff that Walmart is putting out really a month old or have they just not stopped it yet? Stupid I know but just curious.

PS- I feel bad for the guys that spent $100's of dollars on this card, while I and presumably many more have pulled them from $2.97 rack packs containing 22 cards.

PSS- If you are one of those guys that spent $100s of dollars........... sorry for mentioning it.

I guess it's FF-mania all over again. Then and now with the BM-version (Bush/Mantle), it starts really hot at $100+, then once people realize there's enough for everyone, it drops down to and settles at $5. That's how much I had to pay for my Bill Ripken FF back five years ago when I needed one for my 1989 Fleer set. I got it as a factory set and it only had that boring black box version, and I didn't think the set was complete w/o the "proper" Bill Ripken card. image

I hope that's also true for that Alex Gordon card; I want the complete version if it ever becomes affordable.

I dont really know for sure. Many ebay sellers said they did but Topps never said (to my knowledge) that they will stop printing the Jeter #40 for Series One packs. They WILL have a corrected version for the factory sets. That was said. I read earlier they said they will not correct the Jeter until the factory sets are made, I have not read any new update to that statement. They apparently print factory sets last, like Fleer did in 89 (unsure of other years).

Even if they did cut off printing they could have pallets and pallets of sheets to cut/package still.

  • Kinda hard to keep printing the card when they already got rid the "1 of 1" "printing plates" that were included in the series one packs. Unless......

    say it aint so!
  • As Beckett stated in their last issue (or one before) they make more than one plate for each color. Its only 1/1 because only one of ea. color was avail to the public. (Unless the new owners screw that up.) The plates get bends, scratches etc. Unsure if they get them made as needed or ahead of time. I would assume ahead of time as they wouldnt want to wait for another if they ran across a problem.

They could be using the other plates, or packing up uncut sheets or have a warehouse full of boxes still shipping out. I work in agriculture. We harvest the product and will still ship it out for weeks after. The last one is probally the case. Probally putting a pallet or 2 on a Wal Mart truck as we speak. Well probally a team set pallet too.

Yeah, the actual production is undoutedly done for Series 1 as they are currently getting Series 2 printed and packaged up I'm sure. (That usually comes out around June, right?) They almost certainly have a huge supply of the cards packaged up and stored in a shipping warehouse until a request is put in for an order.
I collect the elements on the periodic table, and some coins. I have a complete Roosevelt set, and am putting together a set of coins from 1880.

  • "THESE CARDS WILL WORTH THOUSANDS IN THE FUTURE"------Yeah, maybe in 500 years or when a big meteorite wipes out most of us.

Since he has his crystal ball out maybe I can get some lottery numbers.
