Distilled water only if you don't do a final soak in acetone or alky.

I prefer undipped coins. I would rather that dipping not be an acceptable practice.

BUT I don't have a problem with dipped coins as long as I know that the coin has been dipped.

So, if you must dip, fine, but please make that part of the coin's history.

If you don't rinse correctly, this is what can happen:

Was that leftover acetone or ezest that made that happen?

It is likely eZest or a similar product. It's critically important that the dip be completely neutralized.

If the toning is heavy, the coin usually comes out with a milky haze on it.

Dipping cents usually turns them an unnatural color. Soaking them in white vinegar than quickly neutralizing in alcohol or acetone usually does a good job.image

Dipped coins and the dipping dippers that dip them are dips.
