Tri-Star: World's Great Pack Chase Wax Boxes

What's the deal with these boxes? Has anyone ever found anything good in them (i know what you CAN pull, but has anyone done it firsthand)? Is there a winners list somewhere that you can see what's already been found?

Thanks. image

Have no idea on these, did see them at Wal-Mart, guess there is a 52 pack somewhere out there.

They sell Topps cards from various years in there own Tri-Star wrappers. I bought a couple of packs last year and received mostly commons from mid 80s.

They were out buying up commons boxes from all over the country to build these "packs".

I just don't understand the crazy hype on eBay. These boxes can be found for $30 shipped, and EVERY box I've seen on eBay (literally every one) has sold for $35-$120 a box. LOTS for $50-70. Right now there's a box on eBay that has a lot of bids up well over $100....and yet there are boxes just like it for $44.95 Buy-It-Now available.

    I don't understand.

I was under the impression that they were all unopened packs.

sounds like a glorified Dutch auction
  • TriStar Hidden Garbage. Is just that. I would wast my money, AGAIN. A bunch of repackaged crap that either nobody wanted when it orginally came out or cards so damaged that nobody would want it now.
  • Repackaged cards being bought by unknowledgable collectors. Most are probally the same new collectors looking to add to their Jeter #40.

  • I've gotten better cards out of Topps rack packs with the 'vintage' cards in them than the Hidden Treasure packs...
Next MONTH? So he's saying that if he wins, the best-case scenario is that he'll be paying for it two weeks after the auction ends?

Nope. That's why you see rubber band marks, touched corners etc. When I was in Kansas City doing one of their shows they had guys walking around buying this stuff up. They were also trying to get the dealers to put the older hidden treasures packs and boxes for sale on their tables. Telling us what a great product it was and how much of a profit we could make. It was like $3 / box @ $30. They are all repackaged cards and many, many, many of the cards came from 5000 ct boxes that were usually box breaks minus the "hit" cards and numerous "set filling" boxes.

What a shame. These would have been REALLY cool if they'd have been made up of all unopened packs.

    Unopened packs in a box.

    "They'd" referring to boxes.

It's pure garbage in a box. You would find better cards if you bought a
board members 8000 count common boxes for $49.95. At least you would
find some mint commons in there. Don't waste your money.

Are the vintage packs ones that have been opened?

Question... are these packs comprised entirely of "vintage" cards or are they inserts? I remember the honorable Mr. Ken Goldin, of Scoreboard fame, did something along these lines with 1997 All Sport PPF (I believe), where one or two "vintage" cards were inserted per box.

By the way, I am still waiting on about 10 or 12 autographed memorabilia redemptions from Scoreboard.

On a related topic, has anyone opened any of the TriStar hidden treasures signed baseballs or mini helmets? Something tells me the bang ain't worth the buck, but has anyone tried their luck and, if so, with what result?

    So no one knows?

  • Q.-are these packs comprised entirely of "vintage" cards or are they inserts? I bought afew and remember getting a 1989 Topps Ozzie Smith as the best card, so inserts, commons etc.

Q.-Are the vintage packs ones that have been opened? The assumption is that they are unopened. Whether that is the case we dont know.

Q.-On a related topic, has anyone opened any of the TriStar hidden treasures signed baseballs or mini helmets?-They have balls,8x10's etc and I was going to buy a ball. BUT looking at the prices for ones that were opened, its not worth the gamble to buy a unopened one. IMO.

From what I thought, this years product contains radomly inserted vintage packs (unopened). I do not know what the odds are on finding one of these vintage packs, but they are showing a 52 pack on the box so that must be the big find.
