Favorite action shot on a pre 1980 football card.

I used 1980 as a cut off because I know there are some really awsome shots on modern cards and I wanted to see some vintage action shots. What's your favorite?

75 Topps Bill Stanfill or 73 Topps Dick Butkus are both nice action shots.

Seriously, I'm partial to that Butkus.

I took a look at all of my 72 scans and thought about using those two and a couple of others (Matte turning the corner at Lambeau and, as much as it pains me to admit it, the Staubach getting ready to let one fly.)

The one of Calvin has to be an image from 69. The Skins changed uniforms the next year.

I don't remember ever seeing the 73 Butkus before. It's really cool.
  • The '73 Butkus is one my favorites also as are most of the action shots from the '73 set. Here are a few more. I could not decide on one, so I added all three, the Stanfill because unfortunately, quarterbacks are such pansies today because defensemen can't do this anymore.

that Stanfill one is great, Ive never seen that one.

The Blier one is funny. Nice to see every one on the boards is still at the top of their game. Favre always Keeps me laughing.

Poor Joe Ferguson. He probably threw 7 passes that day, and he still manages to get a faceful of DE.

For those who have never seen the Greenwood pic (probably the most bizarre action shot ever), here it is:

It's undeniably weird, but between the pretty palms, the presence of Joe Greene and just it's general air of "Wha...?", I kind of like that one.

The Greise and Csonka Pro Action cards are from the same game, and dgf had an image here a few months ago, of Bradshaw I think, from it, too.

The 1966 Philadelphia set includes 14 action shot cards - one for each team.
Great stuff for the time. The back of the card has a detailed description of what's going on.

    Here's some of them :

Life at the L.A. Coliseum. They might have had 60,000 people there but it still looks half empty.

Any film or image of that Jackie Smith thing always makes me smile.

Cool card. If it were a baseball card, I'd think they took the photo at spring training.

Even though I'm generally a baseball type of guy, the 1955 Bowman card #25 of Ollie Matson always gets me. Its looks like he's running away from his mother-in-law. The great " LAWNMOWER-MAN "who is truely missed brought this great card to my attention in an earlier post.

If I knew how to post it I surely would. I HATE asking someone else. One day I'll get one of my sons to show me what needs to be done. Thanks for your help.

Thanks. I almost forgot about that. Now it will haunt me for another 20 some odd years. Now does anyone have a card with "The Catch" on it. image
