MAJOR props to the NHL as a whole for this auction. Hope to see the other sports following their lead.

    Item Description:

The National Hockey League and the National Hockey League Players' Association are conducting a unique auction of game-worn 2007 NHL All-Star jerseys with proceeds benefiting Hockey Fights Cancer.

The 2007 Hockey Fights Cancer Game-worn NHL All-Star Jersey Auction features jerseys worn by the National Hockey League’s elite during the 55th NHL All-Star Game on January 24, 2007 at the American Airlines Center in Dallas. The Western Conference roared to a 12-9 victory over the Eastern Conference in the mid-season showcase.

The National Hockey League and the National Hockey League Players' Association, are proud to offer fans and collectors across the globe the opportunity to own a piece of history … … the actual jersey worn by Eastern Conference All-Star, #87 Sidney Crosby of the Pittsburgh Penguins during the first period of the Western Conference All-Stars’ 12-9 victory over the Eastern Conference All-Stars.

This All-Star jersey is a Size 56 and is registered into the NHL-MeiGray Game-Worn Jersey Authentication Program as number D02019. The jersey was autographed on the back number after the first period.

Unfortunately, everyone knows someone who has been touched by cancer. Our hockey family is no exception. Hockey Fights Cancer is a joint initiative founded in December 1998 by the National Hockey League and the National Hockey League Players' Association to raise money and awareness for hockey’s most important fight. Hockey Fights Cancer is supported by NHL Member Clubs, NHL Alumni, the NHL Officials' Association, Professional Hockey Trainers and Equipment Managers, corporate marketing partners, broadcast partners and fans throughout North America. To date, Hockey Fights Cancer has raised more than $9 million.

The MeiGray Group Game-Worn Jersey Authentication Program (meigray.com) individually numbers, security-tags and markets the game-worn jerseys for 17 NHL clubs: Atlanta, Boston, Colorado, Dallas, Edmonton, Florida, Montreal, Nashville, New Jersey, NY Islanders, NY Rangers, Ottawa, Philadelphia, St. Louis, Toronto, Vancouver and Washington.

MeiGray has partnered with the NHL since October 2002 in the NHL-MGG Game-Worn Jersey Authentication Program. Game-worn jerseys of the 22 participating clubs from 2002-03 through 2005-06 can be found at nhlgameworn.com.

Since its introduction in October 2002, the NHL-MGG Game-Worn Jersey Authentication Program has donated more than 2,000 game-worn jerseys to its member teams and their charitable foundations throughout the United States and Canada. These jerseys have contributed to numerous charitable organizations in North America.

My brother bid on this early on but then he found out the same jersey can be had, framed, by the same for $1300. Not that I think $1300 is even fair but it gives some idea about the stupidity or philanthropic nature of the bidders.

How can you say this auction "gives some idea about the stupidity or philanthropic nature of the bidders"? My dad is fighting cancer and I can't believe you have to say something negative about this auction. I'm glad people with money are bidding up these jersey's for a good cause.
    You are such a tool.

Really poor taste shown in putting that auction down.

Its for a great cause and even greater to see there are those willing to help out so generously.

These jerseys were game worn, thus, the high prices. They are not Upper Deck Authenticated or whatever jerseys.
