Need advice on Fantasy BBall trade

zef204zef204 Posts: 4,742 ✭✭

I am in a league outside of here, and I was just offered the following. It is a 5x5 roto league

Magglio, Thome and Ryan Zimmerman all for Matt Holliday.

I will never play Zimmerman as I have M. Cabrera at 3rd and if I accept I would have to play Thome at Util.

I know Holliday is projected to be a stud, but that is a lot to offer up and I feel weird turning it down. Advice?

  • Since you state you will never play Zimmerman this trade is basically - Magglio and Thome for Holiday. You have to ask yourself if Thome is better than your current util player - if so and since in my book if Magglio stays healthy he and Holliday cancel each other out.

So if this were me...it comes down to is Thome better than your current util. If he is - pull the trigger.

    Hope that made sense.

    <Courtney Taylor voice>Every day should be a Holliday.</courtney Taylor voice>

Don't feel weird, I'd decline it too.

No way does Mags cancel out Holliday.

I think I am going to decline.

I don't like that Thome would tie down my Util.

My OF is Holliday, Chris Duncan, Delmon Young, Chris Young, Dave Roberts and Carlos Quinten.

Is the difference that great - no. I'll take a proven hitter over a guy that has had one great year.

Last year Holliday had 10 more home runs, 10 more rbi - not much of a difference.

Biggest gap is in runs scored

10 more HR, 10 more RBI's, 9 more SB's, .028 better BA, and and 37 more Runs. In a 5 category offensive roto league, that is significant.

Not just the Roto scoring issue, but I'll almost always take a guy who's still hitting his stride over a guy who's in the decline phase of his career. Looking at Zef's outfield, which looks similar to some of mine, I'd say he does too.

  • Maybe the mentality is different as I am in a Head to Head league...never once did a roto.

KEEP HOLIDAY!!!! I drafted him # 24 overall and consider it a steal.
