Indians game called due to snow - Byrd one out away from a no-hitter

Did anyone see this? Paul Byrd had pitched 4 2/3 hitless innings and had a 1-2 count on his current batter and then the umps called the game.

Sorry, but a 5-inning no-hitter just doesn't seem impressive to me, even though it "counts".

  • Never said it was impressive, just an odd series of events.

I'd agree that it was unusual for the umps to call a game one out from it going into the books more so than the no-hitter, though.

I thought they changed the rule that an "official" no-hitter had to be at least 9 innings (and a win).

  • Not sure....the ESPN crew were sure talking like it would have been an official no-hitter.

mike hargrove, using his HUMAN RAIN DELAY nickname to it's fullest extent, befuddled, confused and betwixted the umpires long enough to call the game. '

Its such a crap shoot weather wise in the North East and Mid West in April. I know the schedule makers can't have these teams start on the road in domes and warm weather sites EVERY year but can they PLEASE do away with early April night games?
