You can read Clemente's bat!

Sometimes you buy something that you like and it delivers MORE than you thought. I bought a collection of Pittsburgh negatives (Steelers, Panthers & Pirates) from the 60's & 70's, and among the more attractive items were a couple of vintage color 35mm slides of Roberto Clemente from 1965 game action. When I scanned this one in, I was thrilled to see the detail on the bat. You can just about read Clemente's signature on his barrel clearly. Talk about detail! This photo really captured Clemente's face and intensity. Very pleased. I know there are some Clemente fans here, so enjoy!

Not a "60's or even a 70's pic", and I know this is most likley a "scripted batting stance" for this Bazooka card, or may be just a "batting practice pic" (...or could it be an actual "gamer pic"?),

but I thought the expression on Cal's face to be sooooooo cool! Almost like an expression of "ease, satisfaction and I can hit the ball anywhere I damn pleeeeze!".

btw, this card is on sale on ebay!
  • Cal Ripken HAS to have the ugliest swing in baseball history. His lower half is as "wrong" as it gets. Literally backwards. He makes it hard for me to teach. He is so awful--and so good, I have to explain to kids that it works for Cal--but he's the EXCEPTION. He sure played the game the right way, however.
I do love his expression on that card. Anyone have some more images of great facial expressions? They're pretty cool.

so can you do a larger pic of the bat or is that going to cause a problem with your copyright?
  • No copyright issues...just very time consuming. The files are quite large and take awhile to scan/upload, etc. To do the bat only, it would require a new scan and processing. The simple way would be to zoom on the bat in photoshop/etc, but wouldn't yield the clarity I want. Perhaps I'll give that a go and see how it works out.
  • I tried just blowing it up. It looks OK. It's not AS clear as the printed copy, but you get the idea. You can imagine if the bat is this clear from a distance, how crystal clear Clemente's image is...

Everything about Clemente is cool....I mean, that uniform looks like it was made for him and that the colors were coordinated just for him. Great pic DGF! Drop me a PM when you land some L.A. Dodger pics!

  • Arnyvee,
Absolutely! I could not have said that better! I cannot imagine Clemente in a different uniform. There are some guys that just were invented for the uniform they wear. Could you imagine Jeter in any other uniform? "...Now batting for the Milwaukee Brewers...number 27...DEREK JETER..."

And your post sir, well it is even more unrelated! (At least I had a pic, and absolutely, is a bit harsh, don't u think?)

    rd

edit: Well, I'm soooooooooo sorry Southerncards. I guess u thought maybe I highjacked dgf's aesthetic ambiance of his "old school images" thread? Well your opinion is noted! (ok, ok! "Jerry's "facial expression"? I grant u, it's not the coolest facial expression, but it does show-off a little of Jerry's confidence, I might add!). And guess what Southerncards? "You CAN read Koosman's Jersey number!" image

dude dont let southerncards bother you.. he's an ass..

your post is just fine, and its related in as much that you thought it was a cool photo to share, the same reason dgf made this thread..

hell, the thread hadnt been bumped in 2 days, im sure dgf didnt mind the thread coming back to the top..

  • rbdjr1 - I was only joking. I guess my humor was a little too subtle....my apologies.

and kudos to pandrews for once again jumping into the fray and finding a reason to call me names.
  • The '78 Koosman is a cool card. Jerry is very underrated as a LHSP from a historical/collector perspective.

    Here's a Koosman image that I like from 1970:
    image

I can't say Koosman has anything to do with the original thread, but to each his own, I guess.

    dgf,

actually, other than being a truly nice photo of Roberto Clemente, to me, Clemente's facial expression is fairly typical of him at bat. Here are some other Clemente pics. Some also show Roberto's facial expression simular to yours. While others, imo, seem to show more intense facial expressions than the pic u purchased and shared with us.

But your photo is still pretty cool, as far as photos go (your title of this thread is a little mis-leading, as one cannot really read Bob's bat, that is until u "blew-it-up!", dgf, u did clarify it a little better, that "u can just about read Clemente's bat"! LOL!).

To me, Roberto Clemente's photo image, is best displayed in "black and white". Color photos are ok, but black and white images? They seem to just capture Roberto Clemente better! But that's just my opinion.

Now this grouping of downloaded images & one deckle edge of Roberto Clemente, are not of the same "photo quality" of your posted pic, but they may illustrate "a difference of opinion" as to Roberto's facial intensity!

  • Rbd,
You started this so... here we go!
I can't tell where you are coming from...ever. How you can turn a thread about a surprisingly nice 35mm slide into a disagreement with someone agreeing with you is beyond me. You post two scans in the mail-call thread of the ugliest, overgraded 10's on the planet--seriously, total hack-jobs--and chime in here with a 78 Koosman? I tried to be nice and compliment the Koosman card as misplaced as it was and then you come up with "misleading" thread titles and "typical" facial expressions, blah, blah, blah. Seriously man, stop pissing on my sheets, will ya? Here's a proposal; you don't read or discuss any of my photo posts and I won't call you a idiot. Fair enough? Please, do us both a favor and just go away. I go away from posting here for weeks at a time as I tire of your type, but the good guys bring me back--I enjoy them. You? You're like a bad fart around here. Everybody acts like you're a good guy because they're so nice--they just look the other way as if they don't smell you. They just keep on talking, hoping the stench will disperse, but it seemingly never does. I come back this month and post a little and your stench resurfaces. You turn a feel-good thread into a hostile takeover. Go fart in someone elses new car, will ya?

  • Arbysauce,
Another thing; STOP USING THE FREAKING QUOTES ON EVERYTHING, PLEASE!!! Everything with you is "intensity" and Koosman "brings it". You are a "Geek"...or a "dweeb". If your goal was to simply upstage my photo, why not just say something like ,"How about these?" Instead you give your unwelcomed, uninformed synopsis according to SuperDweeb while you confirm with every word how big an ass you really are. Man your ego is huge. How on earth did you make your money? I can't imagine you ever gaining the respect of enough peers to ascend to great things, so I'm guessing you're in commodities? Inheritance? How can someone like you remain liquid enough to afford a happy meal, let alone those two God-awful PSA 10's? I'm out.

    Inheritance?
How can someone like you remain liquid enough to afford a happy meal, let alone those two God-awful PSA 10's? (btw dgf, why the "hose job" and call me out on my PSA 10 purchases? U don't "post two words to me in two years", and the first thing u do post, is to hose two of my cards? hummmmmmmmmmm thats weird?)

dgf, U want to spam and promo your recycled pictures by posting on these threads, if that's what u are doing? Be my guest. I could care less what and why u do it! As far as me pissing on your sheets? Forget about it! We have a water shortage here in South Florida.

    rd

edit: dgf, I'm not going to lower myself by responding to all the insults u made to me in those two posts quoted and repeated above. Go ahead and promote your recycled pics here, I really could care less. But why get sooooooooooooooo nasty with the insults? U say those kinda insults in person too? I doubt it, cause u would have never made it past the second insult, speaking for myself, I would have "rocked your world"!" Kinda shows your true colors, don't u think? It could be bad for business. (If sales are sloooooooooo for u, and u still need to promote yourself here, at least try to "ACT" like a civil adult, and not come back as some kind of insulting person. U are "just ACTING", right?)

just a footnote: I didn't insult u, trash u, in fact, I DID compliment your photo, I added to this (your) "thread", as I'm a member here, just like u r, and do not need your permission to post! I spent the better part of an hour looking thru old Clemente Web photos, and posted a few of them here for all to enjoy, and u get your "jewels in a tizzy"?).

With the uncalled for insults like u threw at me, your "olde-school-image" is more like "pre-school"!

U seem to like call posters here "an ass". Didn't, someone recently object to u posting a "nude image" or something, and instead of u responding in a civil manner, you called that poster an ass? While, dgf, I truly, sincerely do not object to you posting your images here, whether or not u are doing it for "pure pleasure and the enjoyment for others to see" or whether u have an agenda to promote your olde school images business, or maybe somewhere in between? I'll finish with this, I'll post when I want, where I want. I'll make comments as I see fit, but I'm not going to lower myself, and "talk the kinda trash" and throw-out the insults like u did, just because u didn't like something! That soulds like some deeper rooted problem that's beyond the scope of these threads.

oh yeah! just a heads-up, I did get an unsolicited PM from someone a couple of days ago, here is part of the PM I received:

"The reason DGF posts these threads is to spam his auctions. He got called out linking them in the past, so now he just posts the picture. I'm guessing that he's not getting much traffic, hence the reason he created three threads in the past week."

    - very interesting!

    DGF,

Just a word of advice before you respond (from your nasty PM to me) "more venomous and vengeful", take a step back and deep breath.

You have already lost some potential customers, why take the chance of losing more.

Just stop, please, before this gets really ugly.
