Please don't hurt me...

Ok these are stupid questions, but I'm new to collecting sets (just base cards). What does series 2 mean? Is it just updated teams? and when does it come out? I just want to know because I just finished the Topps 2007 base set and was thinking about doing the 2007 fleer. Would you guys recommend doing the fleer or sticking with one company and waiting untill series 2 comes out.

    Series 2 means that it's the second series of cards issued for the main base set. For a long while, Topps released their main base set in multiple series. Back in the early 1970's they stopped doing this and just released their sets in one series. So for example, if you bought a pack of Topps in 1988 you could get any card in that set from 1 through 792. In 1993, Topps went back to their older ways and released sets in series again. Series 1 contained cards 1 through a number I forget. Series 2 picked up where Series 1 left off. By doing this, Topps can just concentrate on one print run at a time, and if players changed teams after the first series had been printed and those players weren't in Series 1, Topps could have that player displayed on his new team.

    By splitting up the cards into Series it allows the company to release the main set over a longer period of time and have a longer market presence. So in order to collect the actual Base Set of 2007 Topps you need to get the full Series 1 Set AS WELL AS the Full Series 2 Set. (Then later in the year they have the Updated set which is an entirely different/new set).
    I collect the elements on the periodic table, and some coins. I have a complete Roosevelt set, and am putting together a set of coins from 1880.

    Alright thanks. I think I'll just stay with the topps set and not bother with Fleer. Anyone know when they start to release the series 2? At the All Star break or something?
