who else has the addiction

I sold most of my collection on this board, except for my graded Jordans and graded Quackenbushes. I still find myself spending money on ebay, I see a deal that I can not pass up and buy it. I sold most of my collection and then spent the cash on ebay and Walmart buying a bunch of 2007 topps unopened boxes of baseball cards. I guess once a collector always a collector. Who else has the bug. Any stories on binge buying or selling your collection and then buying because you could not pass the great deal up.It would be great to know I am not alone in the addiction of sports card buying. Dave (My latest buy was 2004 ex michael jenkins Rookie numbered to 6)

  • I did something very similiar. Early last year, I sold all of my game used cards including my most favorite logo patch cards and made a ton of money, just to spend it all on the beginning of my collection of game used memorabilia...............just like you said...once a collector, ALWAYS a collector
  • I have the same problem, I hadn't bought any baseball cards since the late 80's and then about 5 weeks ago I blew out my knee and found myself with a lot of couch/internet time on my hands. About three weeks ago I found this site and to be more exact the 2007 Heritage thread, since then I have bought about 5 cases and 25 blasters, not to mention numerous vintage cards off ebay. I managed to fight the addiction for about 20 years, but I guess once an addict always an addict.
  • Im a little sick myself!!

I'm pretty sure most of us have the addiction.

When funds are tight and I cannot buy, I look through my stuff for some FINDS. Once in a while I get lucky image

Defintitely not me. Just because I just spent $600 on OPC junk wax from the early 90s doesn't mean anything. You guys are the ones that are sick. Not me. Screw you all, I'm outta here!!

Yes, I originally had 1976-79 Topps sets a few years ago (sold them to pay off part of my student loan), and I just recently got 'em all back, although the 1976/1977 (and 1979 to a lesser extent) need some extensive upgrading work (corners), but at least unlike most sets from that era, there are very very few to no miscuts, so at least I lucked out in that regard.

I also hope to get 1974 and 1975, which I think 1974 is a good cutoff because that's the first year they did away with those high $$$ numbers, and I also personally like the 1974 design, even if it's not the most popular.

All the time. I'll usually go through periods with each of my collections where I don't really buy anything, then all of a sudden I go on a binge and buy a TON of stuff to fill out the collection. I did it a few years ago with my element collection, and looking back I'm glad I did because the metals I bought have SKYROCKETED in price since then. Two years ago I really did it on my coin collection, and this past year I've been doing it with my card collection.

Typically this "binge" ends when I reach the completion of one part and realize "S*&%. I spent too much money." image
I collect the elements on the periodic table, and some coins. I have a complete Roosevelt set, and am putting together a set of coins from 1880.

If I don't get my fix, I get the shakes image
So basically my kid won't be able to go to college, but at least I'll have a set where the three most expensive cards are of a player I despise ~ CDsNuts

One of the WORST things I ever did was invest in a sweet Dell computer with lighting fast comcast server, put Ebay up on my favorites. Its like a daily habit, I really need to moniter my spending or it can easily get out of control. Serious stuff here, it is an addiction and so easy to access.
