I got a silver koala in...

It looks very neat! It has an interesting textured background like the gold-proof buffalos do. I'm just not sure if this is a one-year only design or what. We already have the silver kangaroo, kookaburra and lunar coins.

Sorry, no pics! I sold my camera and am waiting for the Sony H9 to come out.

  • From the Perth Mint:
"The 2007 Silver Koala is the first coin in a new series of iconic Perth Mint releases depicting Australia’s most endearing marsupial. Scheduled for release each year with a new design featuring a cuddly koala, this stunning series is designed to appeal to investors, collectors and gift buyers."

It's a very nice coin with a special "shimmering" background.

  • I just sent mine in to be graded. I have most of the Kangaroo series Graded. The Kangaroo Series is by the Royal Australian Mint that is why the Perth is doing the Koala. That is to show that the Two important marsupials of Australia are represented by the two mints. If you notice the P for Perth Mint is on the Koala Coin.
  • My understanding is that after this year they are the Pirth mint is going to stop doing the Kookurra and switch to the Koala. I might be wrong. but I remember hearing that somewhere. when I am able to find it I will update. I as well have the new coin it is very nice just like all the other Australian silver dollar.

I really hope so... It'd be nice to have a complete set of Kooks and call it a day.

There's a joke in here somewhere about koala and a prostitute, but it's adult so I'll leave it out.

The Kookas are dead, there will be no more, not sure on what they are doing for larger bullion coins though.

Would really like to see a complete collection of Kookas, they made several hundred different ones, esssentially they were sadistic necrophilliacs who were into beasiality on these.

I stopped at one of each, size/packaging and type, with one or two military themed ones.
  • I bought a bunch of the koalas, and sold a few on ebay recently. Very nice coins, and yes they are going to do a koala series that will replace the kookaburra. The perth mint is minting these to order at $30 a piece from their website, or you can buy them from AMPEX for $17-$18 (that's what I paid for mine).

Oooh, right, I forgot about the kilo, 5 oz, ten oz, etc. Just one 1-oz coin from each year would do it for me.
