Topps uses 1971's black borders for 2007, why not a bold colorful 1975 style set for 2008? =)
Okay, all of you know how 2007 Topps is done in black borders just like the 1971 set (as well as color coded squares to match teams), right? Well, am I the only one in this congregation who thinks it would be so, so awesome if Topps were to make a really bold, colorful bordered 2008 Topps set, based on the classic 1975? I have always dreamed of owning a really nice 1975 Topps set (once all my other projects are done) and it would be so kewl if Topps went that route for next year's model.
Am I wrong?

<< <i>You mean like the 1990 set? >>
I like the design, but just like the '71 set these borders are FRAGILE.
Still, the cards are quite stunning.
<< <i>I don't collect modern, but being a Cardinals fan I had to build this set.

But since the 2007 cards are on much better quality glossy stock, that should make the borders less fragile, no?

My Registry Sets
Bowman has been doing them for quite a few years now and I cant tell you how many times I open up a pack just to be disappointed in a little white curl on one of the edges. I also see it at card shops where they will have similar condition cards of some of the best rookies. I opened a few of the 07 Topps packs and surprise surprise...
Personally I like the design of the cards ~ in white! The Opening day set looks great IMO and I wish they would have reversed the two. Topps did the colored border thing for a few years in the early 2000s and it just didnt seem to work right then, why did they have to do it again?
Topps, please ~ if you want to do a fancy colored border can you make that the OD set in the future with the base set a more traditional white border? I for one would be very thankful!
Now, same goes for your idea on the rainbow idea, I wouldnt mind them making it but I would rather see it as the Opening day and the regular set housing more traditional "Topps" looking cards.

BTW HA, I love that Pujols card. Though, he will probably be retired by 2024.

<< <i>Ugh, I wouldn't like to see a set like the 75s OR the 90s returned. The clashing color choices is a real eye sore.

No, try 1991 Fleer baseball; talk about boring...
And what's everyone's problem with bold/colorful designs? I think the 1990 Topps set is kinda kewl, and it's my ultimate goal to get as nice a raw 1975 Topps set as possible, which will come after I finish all my other baseball card projects, so it'll be like the finishing touch if you will.

<< <i>Topps should leave the direct knock-offs to the Heritage line, but they could offer designs that are "inspired" by their past sets for the base brand set each year. They could do a 1975ish looking set like the cards below. It looks new, but also has some elements of the old sets that we all liked.
Those rock!!!

I do agree that the 1991 Fleer set is likely the worst set ever made, and to make it worse, the cool rookies (like Bagwell) are in the update set. It did have one thing going for it however. I think that was the first Fleer set with Pro-Visions?
Clear Skies,
Mark
Raw: Tony Gonzalez (low #'d cards, and especially 1/1's) and Steve Young.
I mean, the other set from that era that cropped player pictures and put them on weird backgrounds was Skybox, and those were kinda cool. 1991 Fleer Football was a hack job.
