PCGS Will Not Grade 2006 W Uncirculated Silver Eagle MS70???

Is it true they are not giving the 2006-W uncirculated silver Eagles ANY MS70 grades for whatever reason? Will that go for the 2007's also? Is there an article about this anywhere? Thanks!

They are not giving any MS ASEs a 70 grade because of the milkspotting issue that is prevalent on these. It's been discussed many times on this forum but I don't know of any specific links. Once milkspotting happens, the value of the coin is diminished greatly.

No one knows exactly why milkspotting happens but it is relatively common on unc ASEs. The latest guess on why milkspotting occurs is a combination of improper planchet cleaning at the mint combined with packaging with some type of rubberized plastic (e.g. TPG holders and ringed AirTites).

does the "burnished" make any difference on lessening the possibility of milk spotting?

I for one can't tell a difference between a 69 or a 70 except for what a 70 fetches in an NGC holder.

Some people are apparently very good at distinguishing between a 69 and a 70 raw to the point that their TPG 70 success rate is very high after pre-screening.

I'm with you loaded, except you can throw 68 in there with 69 and 70. I guess it's a modern thing. Once you get over 67 your splitting hairs. The only coins I have in 68 and 69 are Roosies and they are cheap or I wouldn'y buy them.

I don't think it's a modern thing so much as a collector thing. Some collectors focus on die varieties which other collectors feel is splitting hairs as well. Collect what you like image

No, the burnished dies do not lessen the milk spotting any.-

A high humidity enviorment seems to trigger the milk spots. Over 30% is not advised Store your coins in a airtight container with silica gel and cross your fingers image .-
