Just got an AWESOME steal!

Sometimes it helps to look around on E-Bay at odd times. I was just browsing around some auctions and saw that this one seller had two auctions going for sets I needed. One was for the 2007 Topps Josh Gibson HR History set, and the other was for the 2007 Topps Generation Now insert set. They both ended within a few minutes of each other, and when I found them there were two minutes left. I immediately opened up two browser windows and prepared to snipe.
(I typically just bid right away, but with less than two minutes left I just wait until the end and place my bid). For the Josh Gibson Set, it looks like there were FIVE off us who had the same idea and I came up short with my $82 bid.
For the Generation Now Set, however, I got quite the steal! The complete, 2007 Topps insert set of 200 cards and I won it for only $108 including shipping. That's about 50 cents for each card in the set. The largest of the 2007 Insert Sets and it's mine, all mine!!!!! As a result, I've updated my wants/needs list for 2007 Topps since all of my Generation Now cards are now dupes.
It's a shame I couldn't get the Gibson set too, but looking back I really wouldn't want to depart with $200+ at this point anyway.
Linky.

I collect the elements on the periodic table, and some coins. I have a complete Roosevelt set, and am putting together a set of coins from 1880.

<< <i>How hard is it to get those cards? One per pack? One out of four? Anyhoo, that does sound indeed like a sweet buy, especially considering it's a current year insert set. I mean, an insert set from 10-15 years back is one thing, but to get a current insert set for that cheap...
The inserts this year are generally sorted as one per pack for all inserts across the board, so in each pack you buy you should get one of the close to a thousand different insert cards out there. (Unless you're unlucky like me and open a few packs that have no inserts at all in them). If one was to buy a hobby box of 2007 Topps Series 1 I would think that they would wind up with around 18 or so cards, perhaps up to about 20 with some of those being duplicates. So in order to get all 200 cards in the Generation Now series you would need to buy close to 10 Hobby Boxes. So being able to get the full set for just about 50 cents a card is nice in my eyes.

<< <i>I assume you're gonna get the second series once its out? If you got this one that cheap, I'd say go for a 2007 Topps master set.
Hehe. Well, Topps made it 100% impossible to obtain a master set, and they've been doing that for the past few years with the introduction of the "Platinum" parallel and the "Printing Plates" parallel. Since those cards are all 1/1 it is completely impossible to get a Topps Master Set unless you go and buy every single pack that the company produces.
I will plan on getting the Series 2 set and the Series 3 sets once those series are released and the other ten insert sets have been announced. (Looking through the inserts I have now, there are about three times as many cards in the Topps Insert Sets than there are in the actual base set. Sad really).
