What would be a good price for 1982 Topps Traded and 1984 Fleer Update sets WITHOUT the big guns?

Since Cal Ripken is now a HOF-Elect, I figure it'd probably be best to just buy a 1982 Topps Traded set w/o him for the time being, and then after July when he's in the HOF offically and all the hoopla dies down, I can then get hopefully a very affordable PSA 7, then crack it and put in a mini-tite for my permanent collection.

As for the 1984 Fleer Update, it is still quite unaffordable (BBCE charges $375 for the set) thanks to the RC's of Mr. Clemens and Mr. Puckett, so I'd probably like to get a 1984 Fleer Update set w/o the two big cards, though in this case, I'm not sure even PSA 7's would be in my price range, and if buying singles, it's very risky to buy these singles raw as this set has major counterfeiting issues. Or I can just forget about those big guns completely; after all, having 130 cards out of 132 in this set is better than none.

So my question is, once I'm ready to look for these on Ebay, what would be good prices for each of these sets w/o their big guns?

The 1984 Fleer Update set still has two key rookies from the 80s besides Clemens and Puckett: Gooden and Saberhagen. A PSA 9 Gooden can still get $25+.

Then don't buy it. If commons are all you want, maybe the 84 Fleer update set isn't the right thing to buy.

Saberhagen was a dominant pitcher for 10+ years on a very bad team for most of his career. He managed to have two 20+ win seasons and two Cy Young Awards on a very crappy Royals team, and was plagued with injuries throughout the rest of his years but was still able to put up decent numbers. He was one of the top 10 pitchers of the 80s, and most batters would put him in the top 4 of starters they wouldn't want to face.

The set also has RCs of Jose Rijo, Mark Langston, Ron Darling and Jimmy Key (all very good pitchers), Pete Rose's traded to the Expos card, and Eckersley's traded card as well.

I think you misunderstood me. I simply was just surprised that Gooden/Saberhagen were still worth that much, then again the fact they were such an important part of hobby lore at that time has to count for something, right? And I had always thought only the 1985 Donruss set had a Pete Rose Expos card. I simply need the 1984 Fleer Update set w/o the "big two" cuz it's way out of my price range otherwise (for $375 I'd rather have a super nice 1974 Topps set).

BBCE sells a 1974 Topps set for $300 in NRMT/MT grade (though by his own admission, the "centering jumps all over the place"). A MUCH better buy IMO, and I do hope to get a set like that someday once I finish all my other baseball card projects.
