1969 OPC Johnny Bench PSA 10

(edit: Since his 1968 Topps card is his known rookie card. what was I thinking? Still a beautiful addition, but is it worth the bucks?)

not his rookie is it? was 68 just the pigment of my imagination?
  • i'd wager that there isnt a 68' OPC bench?

    just a though.

Bench's 68 Topps is indeed his rookie. The 69's are called All star rookies because of the trophy.

Not sure if the 69 OPC is his first appearance in that set though.

    could be.

Per the pop report, that's his first OPC card.

If it were a steal, someone would have already clicked the BIN.

Edited to add per SMR (note, this is for regular Topps, not OPC):

A PSA Gem Mint 10 Bench sold for $2,132 in 2006

For Bench, the 1969 OPC is his rookie card. Another example is the 1970 OPC Reggie Jackson because there is no 1969. If I had that kind of wad to blow, I wouldnt hesitate on that BIN price.

You'd think that for a 3K card, the seller could have sprung for the extra 15 cents to show a scan of the back. Unless, of course, that's by design...

Man o man, was I not thinking creating this thread. First off, yes this is a very nice card, but is a second year card not a rookie card. After aying that, is the "buy it now" price is a little pricey?

For a Reds/Bench set collector, this card is "the bomb". The PSA population report illustrates again how scarce vintage OPCs in PSA 10 are, compared to their counterpart, Topps.

Yes Steve. For OPC collectors, it is considered his rookie.

Aren't there a lot of questions surrounding the 1969 O-Pee-Chee baseball issue?

For example -- I thought that no one has ever seen an unopened pack or even a confirmed wrapper from the issue....

[I mention this because there have, in the past, been rumours about certain high-grade singles from this set potentially coming from a modern cutting of some uncut sheets]
I am actively buying MIKE SCHMIDT gem mint baseball cards. Also looking for any 19th century cabinets of Philadephia Nationals. Please PM with additional details.

I would say it is NOT his rookie, even though it is his FOC (first OPC card remeber when beckett did/does that) It seems OPC, though VASTLY more rare, especially in high grade since they used a "rusty axe" to cut the sheet, still are not as desireable or widely revered as their topps counterparts. i keep thinking one day the OPC will exploded and become super sought after, but for some reason, there is much less demand, even for PSA 10's. (not a stab at you RBD image)I would think that 3k for a card like that in that shape is a "good deal" not a steal or it would have been gona already. Is that logic?

I agree with Marc, I have heard the same thing regarding 69 OPC.
