I have a hungarian golden denar from the maximillian the second, habsburg dynasty, dated 1574, and I'm wondering if anyone is familiar with this era, and can give me some info..

First things first ..... Welcome to the Forum

Now for your coin... The coin I assume your referencing is a Hungarian Ducat not a denar. It should be about 22-23 mm in diameter and weigh approx. 3.5 grams.
the front side (obverse side) of the coin depicts Madonna St. Mary, who is patron saint of Hungary and the back (reverse) depicts King Ladislaus, who was beatified in 1192, The halberd (Ax) and the imperial orb symbolize on the one hand his military achievments and on the other the internal order of his country. The mint mark is either a "KB' - Kremnitz or a "H-S" - Kaschau

It should look like this in AU or MS condition.


Approximate Value per Friedberg "Gold Coins of the World" reference catalog Very Fine = $600 XF= $1000. No listed higher grades.

Thanks SilverEagle for the reply, my coin is different than the one you desribed, and it's not in fine condition, but I've managed to get a magnified picture of it..I'm hopin you'll look at it and have more info on it's possible value. This coin collecting has become fascinating to me, actually holding a coin that many generations, for hundreds of years, actually held in their hands and spent..lol...I've tried to attach a picture, but unfortunately, I haven't figured out how to use this site yet, anyway, thank you for your time sir
