How bad does this ding hurt my grade?

1972 opc 447 willie stargell. The other corners look like this one, it's centered pretty good (for an opc) on front and not terrible on the back. The edges aren't too bad for an opc card but obviously could be better. I just don't want to send it in and get a 5.

Probably good enough for an 8.

I had a 1966 Marichal that looked like an 8, except for a ding like that. It got a 7.

From the pic of the back, it looks like there's a crease visible, down on the lower right border (near the bottom part of the cartoon)

Also, on the front of the card, left lower-mid edge, it looks from the scan as if the card was on the top of a stack of rubber-banded cards (reddish stain, edge notched inward). That could knock it down to a 6.

  • I'm thinkin a 5 might be the max on that. It has a tilt also. JMO.

I haven't seen tilts like that have any significant effect on grades below a 9.

Good catch on the crease image I blew up the edge where it's reddish and no rubber band marks but here's the crease. Ebay ad said no creases, he probably didn't look at it closely either. At least it will be a decent looking 5.

  • well technically it's not a crease, and actually i wouldn't call it a wrinkle either ......... not sure what the h*ll it is..........image

No, that is a wrinlke/crease. Either way, if spotted, it'll jack the grade down to a 5.

The scratch on the back isn't helping things either.

Follow the scratch down, and you'll see the wrinkle/crease kinda connecting the meat and the end of the scratch.

    By golly, he's right.

    Excellent eye image
So basically my kid won't be able to go to college, but at least I'll have a set where the three most expensive cards are of a player I despise ~ CDsNuts

The card would still look great in a binder and other 72 OPCs though. image

I STILL haven't quite figured out the difference b/t a surface wrinkle and an outright crease.
