SCG Holders

I just bought some 50s football team cards in SCG holders. All were 86 NM 7.5 and I paid less than $10 each so I took a chance.

I tried to research from prior posts, but I am looking for some more information if I want to cross these over to PSA slabs. What are past experiences in crossing these over? It looked like it was a concensus in cracking out of the SCG slabs, but can I expect PSA 7s and a chance for an 8 on these?

Thanks,

Alfonz

Alfonz - If you are happy with the grade of PSA 7 send them in for crossover in the SGC holders. If you want them to bump up to 8's you are better off cracking them out of their holders. Sounds like you got a good price.

I agree with Aro. Crack only those that you feel are 8's.

    I would crack.

One thing I would warn about SGC is that they regard centering a bit differently than PSA. I have had several cards that were SGC 7.5 that may not even qualify for a PSA 7 due to centering. Centering on the reverse is also similar to this.

Scans would be nice as well.

    Thanks for all your help!

Zef, we are in the Fantasy BB league and I had LoDuca tonight with 3 RBI.

Nice '56 team cards. They look like crossover PSA 7's due to the centering issues. I'm sure the corners are nice however. Good luck with your cross-experiment and let us know how you do on them.

You probably should send them to PSA in their SGC holders with a minimum grade of 7. I would fear that if you crack them out and re-submit them you would get three PSA 8 OC cards.

  • Leave them in the SGC holders. The 7.5 grade is right on the dot. Not centered well enough to be an 8 but sharp enough to warrant a 7.5. PSA will grade them 7 or 8 o/c. This is why I personally like the half grades.

Nice cards in a PSA or SGC holder.

I think they look great in the SCG holders. Unless you're working on a PSA set registry, I'd leave them in.
