.

Just curious.

    Washington State. TDN lives here.

  • Probably Florida or California, since those seem to be the major places I send my eBay sales. image

That's one. image I have noticed, though, that Washington does have quite a few folks who are serious about coinage.

Nah. The question is on a per capita basis.
  • Per capita, I think Utah would rank high, and possibly number one. Great numbers of serious collectors there, against a low total population.

Define "serious." One way to tell would be to look at CW or NN subscriptions per state, or TPG membership per state against state population.

I think that RickMilauskas nailed it on the head. image

Seriously though i'd go with Florida.

"Serious" as in MrHalfDime with respect to Half Dimes and Dismeguy with respect to Seated Dimes, both of whom live within 20 minutes of me in the great State of Maine. Hint, hint.

I like the Utah answer but would probably guess one of the midwestern states. ...Ohio maybe.

Yeah, Ohio is underrepresented here but this is probably coincidence.

    I vote for Connecticutt.
  • ANA or Coin World could probably supply the correct answer.

Utah has 2x the population of Maine; Ohio has 10x the population of Maine. I'll bet that Maine would win on a per capita basis even if there were only 2 serious collectors in the entire state.

Not because I live in Illinois or anything, but for people who are coin collectors it has to be us, ILLINOIS. I say this because people here (basically Chicago area) hoard their change. Hey, it counts as collecting coins image

Now if you want serious coin collectors, I would say Florida or California. I know it's per-capita, but boy there are a lot of collectors out there.

    I'll agree with Connecticut.

Well if we define "serious" as collectors who would pay more than $50 for a coin, then we must exclude almost everyone who posts on these boards. image

<< <i>Believe it or not, I say HI. There are a ton of collectors there. There is only so much you can do on atiny island in the middle of the pacific!

I hear every year the HI State Show gets mobbed. >>

I've been to HI several times. But I've never been able to catch the state show. Is it in Honolulu?

Texas, Florida, or Calfornia would be my thoughts. Lots of money and major dealer in all of those states.
  • Read your monthly Numismatist Magazine from the ANA and look in the Membership Report where it list by state new members, that may give you a better idea of what serious collecters there are per state. Estimated of course, but it seems as if California has more new members for the month of January 2007. image

<< <i>The dealers who attend the HI show in the past have reported huge crowds of buyers. One told me its like a supermarket checkout. Most people save their monies for the show.

It is held at the convention center every year.

I have never attended one. >>

Heck, I will throw in Missouri, my current home state. No one has been more serious, for as long a time, as Eric Newman. That should count for something. Add the owner of the undisputed finest set of $20 Libs, also a long-termer, and you have some serious numismatic firepower.
