Ok, I thought what the heck. PCGS stops the Washington Struck through designation

I sent some smooth edges into PCGS for grading, at the time, they were giving out a coin number (149317)for smooth edges, and a separate coin number (149599)for smooth edges with strike throughs.

I then got a call from PCGS and was told that wasnt working out for them, so they canceled giving out the number 149599, and are only issuing coin number 149317, no strike through on the label, even though the coins have obvious strike troughs.

So I looked up 149599 and saw it has a population of 4 graded coins. One was up on Ebay, so I bought it FOR THE SLAB. I know its a bad thing to buy the slab, not the coin, but I figured what the heck. Might be something to keep for a rainy day.

Am I nuts?

  • your not nuts. You can't reeally go wrong. If PCGS only certified 4 before they cancelled the number, then in theory it is a pop 4 coin. It will always bring a lot of interest
