Numismatic News Subscription

last year I had subscriptions to both Coin World and Numismatic News. I decided that Coin World is the superior publication, by far. I planned not to renew my Numismatic News subscription as it did not provide me with information or education above and beyond that I could get from Coin World.
After my subscription to NN lapsed, I received an offer in the mail from NN that if I started my subscription again, I would get "a FREE 2007 Eagle coin as a special gift." Hmmm, I thought -- silver is $13 or so...maybe this is a good deal? The offer stated I could get 52 issues for $35.99. I brought my checkbook to the office to write a check today, but decided to check the website first, mostly because I am a pessimist about "good deals." Indeed, the website offers a one year subscription (52 issues) for just $24.99. So I guess my "FREE 2007 Eagle coin as a special gift" is not really free. There is no free lunch in numismatics, someone has written that one before.
I look forward to another year of enjoying Coin World. I sure will miss the erudite contributions provided by NN readers each week in the "Letters to the Editor" section.

<< <i>There is a subscription fulfillment outfit on eBay that is selling 52 issue NN subscriptions for $14.99. I signed up for the subscription on March 6. It will be interesting to see just how long it takes for the subscription to start. >>
let us know if that actually works out for you...that has to be close to the cost of postage alone for the issues!

New collectors, please educate yourself before spending money on coins; there are people who believe that using numismatic knowledge to rip the naïve is what this hobby is all about.

I did this once (for NN, actually) through one of those online "cheap magazine" sites. The subscription took a long time to start up, but once it did, things were fine. If I remember correctly, I also got NN for around $12-15 per year.

<< <i>I often wonder why people chose not to enjoy the benefits of our hobby over a mistaken thought that "it costs too much". I receive both NN and CW each week. They do have different features which I enjoy reading. I spend hundreds of dollars a year on my hobby. Why? Because I enjoy what I get for what I pay. To deprive yourself of the interesting Mishler and other articles in NN because of $25 or $35 or $75 is just missing out on some enjoyable reading and viewpoints IMHO. Steve
good points. I just didn't see $20 of value in reading NN. Coin World I would pay $50 a year, I like it that much (shhh, don't tell the subscription dept).
Besides, now I can be their "next BIG winner".
<< <i>I received an offer for CoinWorld from Publishers Clearing House yesterday; 26 weeks for $17.97. I thought that sounded like a good deal.

and no FREE silver eagle? What a rip!
