Patience is a virtue...but did 4SC shoot themselves in the foot here?

I passed on an auction for a 1977 Topps Erving PSA 9 from 4SC last week when a ton of bidders sent the final sale price to $48+s/h - too high for my liking. So they list another 9 this week, which I just sniped for $33 + s/h....But, the key thing is I noticed that 4 hours ago 4SC listed a PSA 10 (1 of 3). Doesn't it seem a little foolish to list the 10 when the auction for the 9 is almost finished? Seems like they might have cost themselves 15-20% at least by doing that...or are they just so big that they can't keep track of what they have out there (or care about losing $5-$15 here or there)....not that I'm complaining, just making a point image

I think their business model (from a back end side) is predicated on churning the cards out quickly. Sure -- they definitely cost themselves some money sometimes, but given how many graded cards they flip, it could be a lot of money hiring additional staff for pareto-optimal pricing strategies.
I am actively buying MIKE SCHMIDT gem mint baseball cards. Also looking for any 19th century cabinets of Philadephia Nationals. Please PM with additional details.

It depends. I know for me I buy 8's and 9's but could care less about 10's. I only sell 10's! So to me the 10 coming on the market would be totally irrelevant. I assume I am not the only person that does not buy 10's. More to the point, I don't think 4sc is thinking about stuff like that. It's grade, list, sell; repeat.
  • recently they sent me a 2nd chance offer, I don't remember them ever using that feature before? So I guess now they will start to offer them as 2nd chance when the price is good enough for them

  • Their strategy has been to post and let the market determine the value. If they don't get their price, they'll lower the item till it sells.

  • I love 4SC. They get more obscure great cards graded and on the market than anyone else.

I would hate to see them start to put sets together like MOSH.

I just picked up a rare 86 psa 10 from them that was 1/1, but they recently got another 10 graded. BTW, there were 4-5 psa 9's of the same card without any bids on them
