Modern Card Question: Ryan Howard

Why are his 2003 cards considerred his RC's when he has a 2001 UD Premier Prospect Card that pictures him in a Phillies Uniform?

The 2001 is an XRC rookie and not concidered a true RC. Same thing as with the traded sets in the 80s.

two things though, after the early 90's all traded cards were considered RC's due to the availability of collectors to find those sets. Second, how was that UD set distributed, in complete set form or in packs? If it was packs then I think it has to be a RC.

I am pretty sure that the set was not licenced by MLB (not positive though). There was something funny about it when it was released which is why it is an XRC and not a RC.

  • So what are some of his most desirable rookies?

    Autographed is Bowman's Best
    followed by Donruss die-cut auto'd.

Bowman's Best with bat piece is nice, and some of the parallel Donruss Diamond Kings are also highly desired.
Chrome Refractors are nice, and the Gold Chrome Refractor is the biggest money non-auto rookie card
I am actively buying MIKE SCHMIDT gem mint baseball cards. Also looking for any 19th century cabinets of Philadephia Nationals. Please PM with additional details.

Isn't the 2001 Premier Prospects set considered the modern day equivalent UD Minor League set?

  • Not to totally divert this thread from the original intent, but of all the "modern" players out there, none intrigue me like Ryan Howard.

When I was growing up it seemed like there was a TON of superstars (Schmidt, Ryan, Sandberg, Ripken, Gwynn, etc). It seems like there hasn't really been any big superstars in the past 10+ years. It seems like Pujols and Howard are the only ones that can say that.

Not understand what you mean- Bonds, jeter, arod, Ortiz, Maddux, Clemens, Halladay, Tejada, Beltran, Mauer, Cabrera, F. Thomas, A. Jones, Big Unit, Johan Santana, Pedro.......

  • Yeah, I guess I forgot about those guys.

Believe me, I hate MLB now more than anybody. But it's not because of an absence of players. Just a variety of other reasons, beginning with nobody every sticking with the team they came up with. I can't wait until the Albert Pujols Yankees jersey hits the market in 2009.

I can think of 4 guys on my favorite team ( take a guess who that might be ) who have stayed with and probably will retire as members of the team. image

Yeah, but when they're on the team that pays the most money for players, it's understandable. How are you enjoying Mussina, Arod, Giambi, Abreu, etc.....? believe me, if Mariano Rivera came up through the Orioles farm system, he'd still be a Yankee today.

  • And don't forget Biggio and Bagwell with the 'Stros. I can't see Berkman going anywhere else either.

As Don West would say, "Buy all the Ryan Howard's you can, BUY ALL THE RYAN HOWARD'S YOU CAN, BUY ALL THE RYAN HOWARD'S YOU CAN"

sorry for the switch, I felt it would be ironic to have christian death metal band as my avatar as some have accused me in PM's to be evil due to my name.
