Opening a small online store, need your help...

I just bought a domain name to open a small online store. The domain name: www.cdscards.com . Couldn't resist when I saw it was available. My goal in this is obviousy to make a few bucks, but most of you who know me know that I'll probably just dump most of what I make into vintage rips or my collection.

Anywho, I'm going to try and focus on a niche of hard to find unopened material and hi-grade complete sets from the 70s, 80s, and 90s, as well as cheap low pop PSA 10s of modern stars for people to fill in their player and team sets. I'm not by any means trying to slide in on Steve Hart's or Dave & Adam's business, more along the lines of fill in the spaces of products they don't have (which isn't much). I will also be going to a lot of shows and stuff, so people can send me their requests and if I come across anything they need I'll pick it up.

Since most of you know me and I know most of you, I figured I'd ask for suggestions or requests regarding what you would like to see in an online card shop. There aren't many left because ebay and Naxcom are too easy, but if I can set up a site that people will check once a month to see the new stuff I got in, it would be worth my time. Naturally, I'm going to suppliment this endeavor by selling through ebay and Naxcom, but the prices will be lower in the online store and I'll keep the truly hard to find stuff there.

Any thoughts?

Lee

ps- this is more of like a fun experiment for me, so any thoughts such as "It's hard to make money on cards...." and such really won't deter me. I know how this business works and know it's a tough nut to crack.

Be sure to link your new site to your EBAY store (if you have one).
This link will save you 75% on final-value fees (FVFs) when a buyer
comes from your site to your store and makes a buy. The FVF html-code
is located on your preferences page; store name.

Be sure to put a link to your new site in your EBAY "ME-Page." Refer
to your ME page in ALL of your EBAY listings. Send paper-flyers to ALL
of your EBAY customers, advising of your new site.

Common-modern 10s is awfully crowded. 4SC has a pretty good lock
    on them.

Consider changing your EBAY name to match the new site's name (if
    it does not already match).

    www.CdsNuts.com wasn't available?

    Nope, it sure isn't.
So basically my kid won't be able to go to college, but at least I'll have a set where the three most expensive cards are of a player I despise ~ CDsNuts

Just make sure you're familiar with the buyer so you don't buy them that mint oddball card that they can't afford or didn't really want all that bad.

Also good clear pics are the key to selling me cards. If there's no pic I usually move on, if I can't find the card anywhere I'll ask and most of the time I don't get pics so I don't buy the card.

Let your good service and good name do the selling for you.

  • List everything. Nothing is too insignificant to put up for sale. I mean, this is coming from a guy who collects boxing cards and Mike Greenwell. From what I've heard others suggest about shows it is usually the oddball stuff that brings some sales.

Scans. Seriously, compadre. SCANS. I don't care if it's a $0.25 card or a $500 card, I'm not buying it unless I can see a scan first.

That's about all I got. Good luck and let us know when you go live.

  • Graded Jordans, and Graded Bill Quacken Bush Cards would be nice. Good luck.
    hi to all

    Collecting Jordan graded cards,
    Jordan #d cards,

    Wanted: Bill Quackenbush cards
  • Congrats & Good Luck;

I am interested in affordable yet profitable rips. I think mid to late 70's football and baseball are a possibility. It is something that collectors my age are attracted to because it is their era and it has good potential and can be somewhat affordable. (at times) Anyway that is my 2 cents, and since I am new at this, I don't even know if it is worth that. Good Luck on your endeavor!!!
