For discussion: 2007 Alex Gordon cards

FYI: I'll be posting this on multiple forums to try and get a good idea of what different segments of the hobby think.

As Alex Gordon has been named the starting 3B for the Royals, his first wave of MLB Approved "Rookie Cards" should be hitting the market by early May (I'm guessing). While most collectors have already turned a blind eye to the recent MLB "Rookie Card" logo (witness 2006 Justin Verlander, Prince Fielder, and Ryan Zimmerman cards), the Alex Gordon "Rookie Card" will be a bit different. While he has had cards produced in the past (notably last year's Bowman sets, and the 2 withdrawn cards from Topps and Heritage), thanks to MLB's heavy-handedness none of them met the hobby criteria of a true Rookie Card (since they all had to be included in what would technically be considered inserts sets, even if the insert set is 200 + cards as in the case of Bowman and Bowman Chrome). By definitions then, the 2007 cards of Gordon would be true Rookie Cards, not just MLB's "Rookie Cards", unlike say Delmon Young's 2007 MLB "Rookie Cards" (since he had true rookie cards issued back in 2003, and other cards produced in 2004).

How do you think the hobby will receive Gordon's 2007 cards? Do you think they'll be as popular and reach the same values as his 2006 Bowman cards? Or do you think they will be less pursued, and that collectors will instead go after those 2006 cards instead, suppressing the value of the 2007 cards? My opinion: it'll end up being similar to the 1986 XRC vs 1987 RC situation for Barry Bonds cards, where collectors will go after both.

Thoughts?

MLB cannot change decades of hobby momentum with a mandate. I can't name a single collector who cares if a rookie card says "rookie card" on the front or not.
No such details will spoil my plans...

It looks like the 2006 Bowman prospects chrome is the most popular, going for much more money than his 2007 cards on ebay.

The bowman chrome will always be the one to have, even though some collectors will want ink. As long as topps gets to continue
to not play by the rules regarding the RC, the (RC) will always be a joke!

So basically my kid won't be able to go to college, but at least I'll have a set where the three most expensive cards are of a player I despise ~ CDsNuts
