We havent attended a bay state in several years...thinking of stopping up for Fri / Sat

anyone who has attended recently....whats the action like on Fri vs Sat ?

This is the one show I try to attend at least once during the year. Since they split up the bourse into several smaller boarses via partitions, I like it much less.

I prefer to go on Friday. I've noticed that as early as noontime on Saturday 6 or 8 dearlers have already left. It's the biggest show I can get to all year so I look forward to it. But I don't really like having the bourse broken up into several rooms. I can easily spend all the money I bring with me to this show.

I've been regularly attending the Baystate Show for over twenty years now, and it is one of my favorites. It is certainly one of the largest regional shows in the northeast, and has a longstanding cast of regulars. To be sure, when the host hotel decided to break up the function room into several smaller rooms it upset many dealers and a few collectors, but hopefully most collectors are like me, and will seek out all dealers no matter if they place them in the janitor's closet.

I have always made it a point to attend the Baystate Show on the first day - Friday - to avoid the disappointment of hearing comments like "You should have been here yesterday", or "Yeah, I had one of those, but I sold it yesterday". The crowds always seem to be steady, and it is often difficult to navigate the aisles because of the people, so I am not sure about the 'morgue' or 'library' comments.

One interesting quirk about the Baystate Show stems from the promoter's unique solution to the dealers leaving early phenomenon. Rather than punish dealers who leave early like the ANA does, he simply provides a free table, display case and lamp to anyone who would like to have a table and be a dealer for the last day - Sunday. That way he can assure that there will be a full or nearly full bourse on Sunday, and many have stated that there is an interesting mix of dealers and some real cherries to be found for anyone attending on Sunday.

I would highly recommend the Baystate Show for anyone in the Boston area this weekend, topped off with a great meal at Legal Seafood across the street, or perhaps at Hilltop Steakhouse if you are heading north. IGWT and I will be attending on Friday, and will no doubt report back here with our successes.
