Has E bay stopped you from....

...searching what another bidder (my enemy-we collect the same thing) is tracking and watching....It seems they only results I get when I search is for auctions that have already ended...I hate this because this guy always finds the most obscure stuff and it tipps me off to it....

I search this way-advanced search>search by bidder>type in his ebay name

  • I wasn't aware that you could view what another member had on their watch list. You can see who is bidding (under $200) but watching???

As far as I can tell you can only search closed auctions for bidder search now. Been that way since they changed things to stop goofbay from helping stop shills.

That's for items being bid on, not watched.

I think this is a pretty lame way to find stuff you want on Ebay. I know if I were going through all the trouble to find the hard to locate stuff and you just watched my activity and outbid me, I would be pissed. To me, that tells me you are too lazy to hunt for it yourself.

I dont think it's lame at all. It's up for auction to everyone. Some people are just better at searching. It's a tool ebay offers so why not use it. Everything on ebay is fair game regardless of how you find it.
As a seller, I welcome howevery bidders find my auctions. It's the name of the game.

As a seller, yes, it's good but as I bidder it sucks. I have the same problem with a musclecar I own. It's a pretty rare car and parts are hard to find. I know of a couple people that watch what I bid on so they don't have to search for the parts. I caught onto them real quick and stopped placing early bids. If they want the parts or cards let them do the searches themselves.

Exactly, adjust your bidding habits but using that tool for searching is not at all lame. And I should add, also as a buyer, I have used that method also. All items listed on ebay are for everyone to take a shot at regardless how you found it.

James-In no way am I lazy-I love to collect and travel, spend money and spend way to much time on the internet searching for cards. The guy that I usually check what he is bidding on collects the same player as I do-the mistake he makes is bidding on something as soon as he finds it-once he does that I can find out what items he is watching-most of the time I could have found it myself, but every once in a while he will find something that wouldnt give you a direct hit if you searched the players name ...If he waited to put in a last minute/hour/ day bid He could get by on me..I dont check everyday.....and Iam sure he checks on what Iam bidding on too.....It is out there on ebay, and they allow the search, so why not use it......

I have a "muscle" car too.......if you call it that... I have a 66 mustang convertible 289...I love it...what do you have? Scott
  • I'm sick of people watching what I bid for on Ebay.

Who needs it???? When you're spending money you don't need to be making a big scene do you? How do some people get the privatized feedback rating for instance?

Eliminate it. If only I could.

  • Who bids early on stuff they really want to win?? Shcill and Snipe is the game to play. If you're not schilling auctions for people you don't know you're not doing your part for the economy....

Well that makes much more sense. You are viewing the items he bid on but not items watched without bidding (yet). You gave me a quick, little heart attack image

Unless the Seller made a mistake in my favor, I rarely place a bid prior to my snipe for that exact reason.

They are watching me... I just know it... Need my tin foil hat...

Yes..ebay has stopped this and I don't appreciate it. Plus now they're doing the bidder 1, bidder 2 cloak of invisibility. I would love to have been in on the group think meeting that discussed and approved this change.
It's not lazy to take advantage of poor bidding practices of bidders. If bidders wanted anonymity they could have items on a watch list. Instead many just bid early and then track them that way. I had 5 guys bidding lists bookmarked and was an active participant on ebay...now my buying is way way way down.
