early PVC detection

I've been reading up on unholy PVC on the web, and noticed that most descriptions seem to leave out details of the early signs of damage.

So far I'm only aware of a film, often green or clear, that is usually sticky, and actual verdigris. Are these the only signs? And if not is there specifics for certain metals?

Are there main differences between early signs of toning and a PVC damage attack?

Verdigris has nothing to do with PVC damage. The first signs of PVC will be an oily film on the coin. If the coin appears to have any kind of film on it, give it an acetone rinse. Do this even if you suspect the coin might have come in contact with PVC in the past. In fact, do it if you are unaware of the coin's history, just to be on the safe side.

Any dealer or collector who uses PVC products should be hanged.
