A 1922 Peace Dollar (Question on color)
I guess to start, this coin came from the collection of Patrica's father. This is the first time I've seen many of these coins since he has passed away. Most of the coins were obtained prior to the 1970's. With the exception of purchasing coins from the mint, he did not purchase any other coins after the 1970's.
Most of the collection was.. well.. There was a few surprises, he had 42/1 dime (EF, maybe low AU), that went Patrica's sister.
A 2.50 gold Indian that Patrica kept (Nice AU)
A few BU morgans and walkers that they split up between them.
A lot of foreign coins/notes (Most of which went to a friend of the family)
This one here kinda stuck out for me though. I strongly believe it has an AT look to it, just because well, I have never seen a Peace dollar with rainbow toning.
Coin was in a book that held mostly foreign coin (I don't ever recall ever seeing it before).
Well do you all think this was a by pruduct of the folder, or the envirnment (He lived in Alabama), or someone played with the coin and perhaps he just pulled it from a junk BIN in the 70's because he thought it looked pretty?
Anyways here it is:

<< <i>Too bad it was polished before it toned. >>
polishing is one of the few ways that Peace Dollars do tone like this. It is the only way to clean off the slightly acidic solution on the surface of the coins that was used in washing the Peace Dollar planchets
