Are old mexican pesos silver??????????

Going thru a great uncles old box of world coins, there is all kinds of ......... here. I know zero about them.

Are the old pesos from Mexico silver? If so what percent silver are they?

    Yes but I don't know the specifics. Americans used to use Mexican Pesos for trade with China because it had more silver than the US dollar. Then the US created the US Trade Dollar which had not only more silver than the US Dollar, but also more silver than the Mexican Peso to compete in China better. Pretty interesting times back when Americans preferred Mexican silver over US silver for trade.

    Depends on the date.

    1870-1914: 0.903
    1918-1919: 0.800
    1920-1945: 0.720
    1947-1949: 0.500
    1950: 0.300
    1957-1967: 0.100

    I love mexican silver but some of the skankiest toned pieces I've ever seen in coindom are those .100 1957-67 and some of the .300 are almost as bad.
