Anyone else having problems shipping to Italy?

I think I'm about to stop shipping to Italy. I've always had isolated problems with buyers in Italy claiming nonreceipt of merchandise, but now I've had 2 within a 3-week time period. One package was sent air letter post and the other was sent registered mail.
I don't know if it's corruption within the Italian postal service, incompetence, or unethical buyers taking advantage of the reputation of both, knowing that sellers have no protection or recourse.
It simply isn't worth the gamble any more...

After reading all the scary posts regarding Italy and many other counties I am no longer shipping outside of the US unless I have dealt with the person in the past and only if they email me first. I have friends in 6 different countries to help me with coins and collectibles from outside the US who will not ship out of the country of origin... I expect a really serious buyer/collector will have contacts in the US who will help in much the same way.

A registered parcel can be tracked. Wait 30 days after the day that you've sent it and (if still not there) start an investigation that will eventually take (max upto) 3 months, but it will determine where the parcel got lost, if that. That's the point of sending registered parcels, they have to be signed for, but it's the sender's post office duty to do the job.
