Second Chance offer- guy being difficult?

I'm not sure what this guy's afraid of, but here's the story: I sold a PSA 9 card on ebay for $44. I happen to have a second one in PSA 9, and offer to sell it to the next highest bidder at $43. He emails asking for a picture of the 2nd one which I send. He wants the card, but I don't think he wants to use the 2nd chance offer because the pic is not of the exact card I'll be sending. I'm not sure what he's worried about but if I'm going to go through the trouble of relisting the item and paying the fees, I'd rather just let it go to the highest bidder and hope I get a better price (I got $63 for the same card a few months ago). Clearly I have the card, have good feedback, and he wants the card at that price. Why is he acting all wierd?

I've had mixed results with second chance offers. You're bound to run into problems with a more uptight buyer, especially when it comes to graded cards, as all PSA 9s are not created equal.

I understand that, but I sent him a big scan of the card he will be receiving which was way bigger than the one of the card he actually bid on. I completely understand why he would want to see the scan of the 2nd chance card, but I'm not sure why he needs that card to be pictured in the Second Chance Offer as ebay will not let you change the picture once the auction has ended.

That is weird. Not sure why he'd need the photo in the auction to be changed for a "second chance" offer anyway, esp. for a graded card. There can only be one graded card with that same serial number anyway. Might be best for you to just ignore him and move on and relist.

Tell him to write the PSA Cert # into the PayPal memo section.
Tell him you cannot change the picture, and you are not going
to relist the card at the present time.

    If that fails, move on.

PS: If you relist the card, I would block the bidder, if he acts poorly.

It's a 1968 Topps Richie Allen PSA 9. I had 3 of these and sold one back in Jan. that went for $63. I emailed him earlier today and told him ebay would not let me change the pic in the 2nd chance offer, but if he bought it I assured him he'd be receiving the card in the scan I sent. if he wants me to relist I'm going to tell him if I'm going to go to that trouble, I'll just let it go to the highest bidder and send him a link to the $63 auction to make him feel like he dropped the ball by being difficult. And yeah, adding him to my blocked bidder list is probably a good idea. Thanks storm.

  • Why dont you send him the link to the $63 auction to persuade buyer they're getting a deal if you really want to make the sale.

i received this pain-in-the-ass message a couple days ago:

I bid on this item by mistake. I clicked on graded rookies and this card popped up and I thought that I was getting a great deal, but once I submitted my bid I looked to find that it really wasn't his rookie card, but just a card from his rookie year. It was an honest mistake based on it being listed under rookie cards. Don't know if we can resolve this, but I couldn't retract my bid after I realized the mess up.

this dude didnt read a title or anything.. it was a PSA graded multi-player leaders card, didnt say anything about rookie card, had a big scan, exact description and everything.. sure, i accidently listed it under sportscards&mem>cards>sport>rookies>graded but still.. that shouldnt be an excuse him being illiterate and blind.. if i'd listed it under the midget porn category, the title and scan/description were still exactly correct..

homeboy had to click submit twice before he realized his honest mistake..

    Lee,

since the card usually sells for more, it sounds like you're in a good position either way.

He paid. I think he never received a 2nd chance offer and was a little confused. Sorry for wasting everybody's time.

it may have something to do with the emails Ebay sends out saying BEWARE OF FAKE SECOND CHANCE OFFERS....yours is legit, but these scare potential buyers into staying away from these....also second chance offers make me think of SHILL BIDDING, but that is just me....

There's a ton of whackos on eBay. That's just the way it is. I recently sold an item and stated very clearly in the description that Pay Pal was not an option for the auction. A prospective bidder e-mailed me to confirm this, I e-mailed him to confirm, and then he won the auction and insisted on paying by Pay Pal. I sold to the underbidder and told the other guy to kiss my a$$.

  • Just get his email and send him the pic of the 2nd card...

I usually turn down second chance offers because of the shilling possibility. Also, although I was willing to pay a certain amount, in the back of my mind I'm hoping for a price better than that. Unless the item is rare, I'd rather bid the exact same amount on somebody elses auction because the possiblity of winning the same item for cheaper still exists.
