anyone collect vintage publications?

I have a facination with old magazines, newspapers etc and especially The Sporting News. Anyone else?

  • I like reading old publications. I've got gobs of old SI's going back into the 60's,
    and every once in a while, I'll pull out a box, and read some of the old articles.

    I've got some Baseball Digests from the 40's that are interesting reads as well.

    I collect newstand (no mailing label) Sports Illustrateds with Green Bay Packers on the cover. Only 4 left to find. Looking through the old advertisements is always cool.

    I have some of these, they're not worth anything but they're great for obscure baseball history.

  • I'm not sure I'd say I collect pubs, but I've ended up with a few. The only Sporting News I've got is 1963 with the Rookies of the Year caricatured on the front (Rose, Ward, Peters, and I forget the other one off the top of my head). I'll post a pic if I get a chance.

    How about some pics of peoples favorites? I really like magazines with one or 2 players on the cover.

    I love the SN supplements.

    Unlike cards, old paper is brittle and very few survive in decent condition. My poor example;

    Lommer,

    What Green Bay Packer Newsstand SI's do you still need? I know I have the Hornung and Taylor available. I just sold the Lombardi/Kramer Newsstand issue a week or so ago. Let me know if you have any interest.

    I have a huge interest in old publications. I have bought, sold and collected old publications for many years and enjoy getting some of them signed when I can.
    Always looking to buy old Minnesota Twins and Vikings memorabilia like Nodders, Photo Pennants, and Photo Buttons.

    I do the same for all SI covers that have Dodgers or Rams on them. I'm not particular about whether or not they have mailing labels, though.

  • I got lucky about 20 years ago and found the 1st 50 issues of Sports Illustrated at a yard sale.

  • I had forgotten about this thread. I couldn't fit the whole thing into my scanner, but here's part of the 1963 Sporting News rookies of the year:

  • Wow, I love that. And I love the Goofy Grape icon. That's a very nice SI.

    Thanks I really enjoy the 1954-1955-1956 SI covers. I have a very nice run of no label issues that are signed by Mickey Mantle, Ted Williams, Doak Walker just to name a few.
