So is the picture screwed up, or is NGC?

I mentioned a little earlier that I'm kinda looking for a Peruvian 100 Soles. The older the better, the higher grade the better. This caught my eye. But it seemed awfully small compared to the slab:

The insert certainly appears to say 100 soles. And if the obverse looks small in the slab, the reverse is clearly a 50 soles (it indicates 23.4055 grams, which is the weight of the 50 soles).

I don't think the eBayer could have intentionally messed with the pix unless they cut the top of the slab from a 100 and pasted it onto a 50.

So what's the deal? NCG screw up?

50 or is it 100 Soles on eBay

Here's the size of my 100 Soles.

Ignore the old PCGS insert (not my crackout but I have the insert)

It's 50 soles. The legend says CINCUENTA, not CIEN

I just noticed that JZ's image shows "00" Soles on the label.......does that mean it's a slabbed inkjet image? imageimage
  • A side issue of interest to me: is Peru unique in spelling out the name of the place of minting (Lima)?

I didn't really like the '00 Soles' but I do like they put the Mintage 126 pieces on the Holder.

No, well sort of not. It seems the Kings and Queens of Great Britain had a penchant for pointing out their naval superiority to Spain, hence the Lima crown. Kinda like, "Hey Phillip, look what we took from you!!" image

  • Other times, Peru has had "Philidelphia" and "Mexico City" spelled out on their coinage.
