A classic 2002 PCGS Set Registry post

...that inspired the Feb Long Beach 2002 "Indian Head Showdown" link

It's fun to look back at that now. Forget Stewart's trash talk, it wound up being a win/win situation
for both collectors and especially for PCGS and IH collectors.

Joshua's (Ally's) IH collection took second to Stewart's at that Showdown, but both were extraordinary IH
collections to view. The "Richard" collection was a respectable third.

Thank you PCGS (BJ and Carol) for making that happen. I met some of the greatest IH collectors of alltime
at that "IH Showdown" PCGS display:

Unfortunately "Joshua" wasn't there, but I met Stewart Blay for the first time at the "Showdown". Nothing
like what I expected from the forum. Cool guy, very sharing and warm in person, and so passionate and smart
about coins. Nothing like the ogre I expected from the forum posts. This was when I first "got" Stewart.
He plays a role on the forum that isn't himself. Not completely, anyway.

I met Tim Larson (Lakesammman on the forums) there for the first time. Another great IH collector who recently
sold the greatest IH variety collection of alltime along with one of the great MS collections. But more importantly,
Tim became one of my best friends online via EBay coin transactions and then emails. Finally meeting him in person
is my lasting impression of the "PCGS IH Showdown".

The late great Ira Davidoff brought his own incredible collection, in a battered old briefcase he kept between
his legs, to compare to Stewart's and Joshua's right on the display table. His coins, many ex-Epstein, fared
very well. His was one of the truly great "unknown" IH collections of alltime. Stewart, who looked at all of them,
would attest to that.

Fade to FUN January 2006, when the Joshua and Ally Walsh Collection of IH Cents sold for over a million dollars.
Joshua may have finished second in the "IH Showdown" but he made major IH history with his prices realized.

Congrats Joshua image

That really was a great time. Even when it was happening, you knew it was special, something to be savored.

Similar lasting impressions - just wish you didn't live so far away!!! image

Many of us truly miss seeing Ira at the shows - crusty but in a fun sort of way and he had a great eye and a wonderful collection. A real stealth collector.

(Baccaruda, 12/03).I find it hard to believe that he (Trump) rushed to some hotel to meet girls of loose morals, although ours are undoubtedly the best in the world.
