Tom Izzo to Kentucky?

I can't see it myself, he could do it for the money and prestige but he turned down the Atlanta Hawks years ago for what
would have been a huge increase in salary. (no prestige with Atlanta of course). Tom has dropped hints in the past few years that he is getting burned out on coaching and the pressure to win at Kentucky might just overwhelm him.

Indeed, other than Billy Donovan (Florida) or Benerick (Louisville), no one else really stands out. Or am I wrong?

  • I dont think Izzo would be interested since he's a State grad and had many offers to go elsewhere in the past. It's all speculation at this point but I think you will see a ton of names interested from top tier coaches to relative unknowns. Personally Im hoping for Donovan but I think he is enjoying building his own dynasty. I'd love to see Calapari or possibly even Travis Ford.

As a life long Wildcat fan I welcome the change. Tubby's system was yawn city and his recruiting was horrid.

I used to always think that Billy Donovan would be the next Kentucky coach whether it was next season or 10 years from now (depending on when Tubby left). After hearing Andy Katz shoot down the notion of Donovan (Florida's A. D. will do anything to keep him), I am leaning towards John Calipari. He make UMass into a national contender, and what he has done with Memphis is amazing. I think he is a great coach and a great recruiter, and a great coach/great recruiter coaching at a great program means great success most of the time.

One thing is for sure, there are going to be some great coaches getting a call from Mitch Barnheart.
