PSA Authenticator Made a Typing Error

I just acquired a Lefty Grove autographed Hall of Fame postcard that
has been PSA Authenticated (psa/dna certified) with its own certified number, PSA red sticker, etc. The only problem is the PSA sticker has on it "Lefty Gomez." Is there a database for me to enter the number that is on the sticker, so I can see if its legit?
Apparently the person who authenticated it made an error confusing his "Leftys."
I guess the very fact that it has the wrong name on it, makes the serial numbers/bar code irrelevant.image

It's just what they call a "mechanical error". PSA will fix it for free; you're only responsible for getting it to them. If there is a card show in your area where PSA will be setting up, you can just walk it up to the booth.

I am sorry to hear that you got such poor service for the price you paid. To me this is a serious problem for PSA and one they dont seem to care much about. They have not QA at the end of the line. Noone there double checks what goes out the door. You filled out an submission form, they print a certificate but they cant double check them??

The more this happens the more people will say: If they cant get the name right how much do you trust their authnetication overall.

  • The person I acquired the card from got it authenticated (I didn't). I was just wondering if the
signature was appraised as legit--since it has the wrong name on it. I trust those serial numbers
on the sticker mean something. At the next card show I go to, I will get it looked at.

  • Thanks for the link! Unfortunately for me,
according to the PSA Certification Database, the number on the card is defined as the following:

    Year: 1964
    Brand: -DATE HOF YELLOW
    Player: LEFTY GOMEZ
    Variety: PSA/DNA CERTIFIED
    Grade: N0

It's a mechanical error, the database says the same as the holder does, just send it in like he said and you'll be fine. No problem, they will fix it.

I think Lefty Gomez was Mexican
  • Thanks for the replies. I'm glad it's just a mechanical error. I had someone, who's quite cynical (he's been burned before), suggest that the previous owner of the card removed the sticker from a Gomez card and put it on the Grove card. I think he's jealous he doesn't have the card.image

Pretty sure the sticker, like the card, is inside the holder. You can't replace it without breaking the holder. You're probably right that he's jealous. If you think it will ruin your friendship I'll send you my address and you can get rid of the problem by sending it to me image

Contact Cosetta Robbins at PSA directly on this mechanical error.

    CRobbins@collectors.com

You may get an auto "Out Of Office" reply, but she will get back to you promptly and direct you what to do.

    She is A-W-E-S-O-M-E!!!!

    Good luck.
  • Thanks. This card only cost me $50.00, so this added to my apprehension. I mistakingly, apparently, thought a Grove autograph would be much higher.

    I will contact her.

The idea that they would call putting one player's name on a flip instead of the correct one a "mechanical error" is laughable. Call it a human error (or trained chimps error, take your pick). It's just so pathetic that it happens so often.
