How about an idea of the grade on this card

I respect what you guys think, so I thought I'd ask for some comments. There is a notch on the right border that does not touch the back half of the paper stock at all, and when viewing the back of the card there isnt even a wrinkle behind the notch. My question is how bad does the notch kill the grade? Hope I did the photobucket right and the image appears.

I think the card could be anywhere from a PSA 3 down to a PSA 1 depending on what type of mood/grader you get. Based on the scan, the card has PSA 3 attributes, but that notch bumps it down to a PSA 2 tops.

I was thinking it had a PSA 4 look since there are no creases and above average centering, with a reality of PSA 3 because of the notch and corner wear.

imagePSA 2. That notch is a major distraction. Good luck with grading it. I think that would be considered just like a major crease.

I dont think Im sending it in, as I have a few takers for it raw. Just wanted to know some general thoughts on it.
  • Paper loss usually ='s a Grade of 1.Too bad it has great centering for an Aaron rookie. If you are going to sell it - don't grade it.

2 would be my guess image
  • I'd grade it a 1 due to the notch on the side.

So what Dave is saying is that these two cards are identical:

Obviously your Aaron looks nicer than that Mantle, but it doesnt mean they aren't the same grade. With only a 10 pt scale, and fair/poor lumped togehter, there are high and low end cards in every grade.... especially psa 1. Technicalities such as a tiny spot of paper loss on the back can drop cards to 1 that otherwise look NM-M. I've seen cards that look much, much nicer than your Aaron (eye appeal wise) in psa 1 holders. I think your card could be a psa 1 or 2, my guess is a 2.

With that said, it's a nice card that I would like to own. My suggestion is if your getting offers over $200 or $250, I'd sell that puppy.

    thanks

All fair points John, but that still doesnt mean a PSA 3 is impossible. Anyhow grading it really isnt my intent, but if more guys had thought PSA 3 I might have sent it. As for selling at $200.00 to $250.00, when you pay $250.00 I never receommend selling at those levels. All kidding aside I have a customer at $350.00 delivered, but I did the post to see what other experienced vintage guys thought. I beleive a PSA 3 goes a little higher than $350.00, but without a lock on a PSA 3 I wont be submitting.

Do I hear $375.00 from anyone? LOL

That is a nice Aaron, the paper loss does not take too much away from the overall look of the card especially since it does not run into his cap.
  • nam812nam812 Posts: 10,602 ✭✭✭✭✭

It just kinda ever so sweetly sweetly kisses his cap image

The card is back from PSA, and thank goodness it was graded a PSA 3.

Nice grade. I had originally figured a PSA 2 but can see why it graded a 3.
