Cool toned NEWP: small world...

Received some of War of Independence coins from Italy the other day (of all the places). Among those was one that I particularly liked - 1815(6) Durango 8 Reales. And it was housed in a Civitas flip! From the paperwork I received from the seller, it looks like he purchased it from Josh last March. The coin appears to have done a complete 360 and came back to the Americas after spending a year in Italy.

Here's the culprit - I love the toning on this piece. Anyone wants to guess the date? If it's 1815 - it's a very rare coin (rr), if it's 1816 - it's very scarce(ee) (according to Calbeto):

Thanks, Josh, for an indirect sale image The last digit in the year matches Calbeto's "6", but the reverse dies match 1815... Don't know how to catalog this one, yet...

Cheers!

Beautiful coin, and what an awesome pedigree!! image

By the way, to my untrained eye, it looks more like a 5 than a 6.

Thanks image Two 60W reveal bulbs, hanging high above the coin, did the trick of revealing (pun intended) the color well.

I hope it is. I think i'll take a photo of Calbeto examples and try to blow them up, super-imposing them onto this one...
