Motto on Hungarian Coin
I'm new here, so let's see how quickly I can make a nuisance of myself.... Can anyone tell me the meaning of this inscription on the edge of my 19th century Hungarian coin: BIZALMAM AZ OSI ERENYBEN. Thanks, and I'm looking forward to sharing my little knowledge. I've gathered some good info on European mintmarks. Brogine

The best I can offer is a Hungarian to English online dictionary, which struggles a bit unless you type in all the accent marks, umlauts and things over the letters that the Hungarian language seems to have in abundance.
Here's my best literal transliteration: "Confidence it old stand". I've probably mangled that badly, but if I'm close, then something like "Confidently in our ancient ways we stand" or "We stand here, ancient and secure" might be more accurate translations. Double-check the inscription and try punching in the words to see if something more sensible comes out.
What coin is that on? Krause doesn't mention any edge-lettering on old Hungarian coins.

<< <i>Thanks for your friendly words and information. The coin is a gold 1899 KB (Kremnitz) 20 korona (0.1960 oz. actual gold weight). Interesting that they used a version of the Latin for 'crown', as many currencies have, when Hungarian and its cousin Finnish are not even Indo-European languages. Seeya, brogine >>
