My mom and dad used to collect coins. Last year my mom gave me a 1955 Double Die Obverse. I posted it on the coin forum asking for advice on what to do with it. From what they told me its a pretty sweet coin that if memory serves, would fetch about $1000.00 to $1500.00 on ebay.
I still have a 1856 Indian Penny that i got back as a dime from McDonalds about 10 years ago. It was so worn down that it did look like a dime. But something wasn't right. So i took my 10x and you can clearly see the date. Amazing!!

Wow, that is amazing!!!!!!!!!!!
Especially since the first Indian Head Penny wasn't minted til 1859!!

We need to team up on a bulk sub, Lee. I have some of those state quarters in my coin jar that look awesome, and I'm sure they'll be a huge smash on the 'bay once I get them slabbed. Whattaya say we get some scans together of these vintage treasures of ours, post them on the coin boards and ask those guys how much it's all worth?

I also enjoy collecting coins. Cards and coins are both great hobbies. I just can't stand it when certain "snobbish" coin collectors look down on card collecting for whatever simplistic reason. These people mostly grew up in the 40's and 50's and probably still look at baseball cards in their minds as only being worth a penny apiece - and they probably think sports is only for Neanderthals. LOL
I'm not really a coin guy but it sounds expensive >>
The CC is just short for Coin Collector I'm fairly sure. >>
No, "CC" stands for "Carson City"!
U.S. had an offical mint in Colorado during the silver rush, I think in the later part the 1800's!
rd >>
Thanks man - sorry, I was just kidding around. I love collecting those CC's. Just always been something interesting about a CC coin to me - the overall scarcity compared to other mint marks of course has a lot to do with it.

If it's truly a small cent from 1856, it would have to be a Flying Eagle cent and an authentic 1856 Flying Eagle cent is worth about $6.5K in even the lowest possible grade!

Good point, Lee. I mean, it's not like those guys ever come on here with scans of their 1990 Donruss Ben McDonalds' and ask for price quotes, so why draw first blood?
Sweet coin zef! And a tough date to find to boot! I'd say that coin should grade either VF (Very Fine) or XF (Extra Fine). PCGS value at VF is $2,100 or $3,600 in XF. Good luck!

I posted it on the coin forum over at the OF Exile board. They guessed VF 30 - VF 35
The bump to XF-40 is worth about 1K more. That coin has a shot on a good day IMO. Fields are very clean for a Morgan dollar, and that could bump it up that extra notch. Probably will grade VF though.

In looking at the scan and comparing it to my 93s Morgan (PCGS VF30), it is very similar; so I'd say it should also get a VF30. It doesn't look cleaned to me
Edited to add that the only thing I'd be concerned with are the scratches on her face.
SD you stand correct. It is 1859 on the coin as i just went back and checked. God forbid i make a mistake on these boards. I'll try and get a scan tomorrow at work of it and post it.

Goose,
Is that cent authentic? If so, you need to put that baby in a PCGS holder! That's worth more than a PSA graded Mantle!

Wow, you definitely got downgraded for the rim nicks because that's the nicest G coin I've ever seen. The rim nicks are even worse than the dreaded "surface wrinkle" for a card.
Collecting 1970s Topps baseball wax, rack and cello packs, as well as PCGS graded Half Cents, Large Cents, Two Cent pieces and Three Cent Silver pieces.
The reason I believe they graded it a 6 is cuz the rim denticles have to be complete thruout to get a VG/F. Around 4pm on the obverse appears to me anyway to be lacking in that dept. That is why I mentioned it in my prior post. At that time I thought it would get a Fine 10
Steve
edited to write fine 10 not 12.
It is a premium quality Good 6 coin. Like cards no to coins are alike.
Your coin while a 6 is prolly hi end for the grade. I don't think the rim nicks by themselves cost this coin its grade. The entire rim looks flattened in some area, notably 4:00 On the reverse it also has some areas where the rim appears worn down.
A grade of G is more equivalent to a PSA 2, unfortunately, in this case.
That coin is a very high end 6 though!!

For those who do not know, NGC will grade the coins inside of the GSA holders. I do not like NGC at all, but I like keeping the coins in their GSA holders. PCGS should adopt the same policy.
GSA = Government Services Administration. In the 1970s, they found a bunch of CC coins and put them in special holders; they look sort of like a PSA/DNA postcard holder, with black backgrounds, very nice.
The coins sold for about $35.00 each, if I recall.
