Do people actually keep records of this stuff. I have about 3000 PSA graded cards pre-75. I sent in a lot myself, bought many off ebay from a wide variety of collectors, and bought a few at shows.

I agree - how could someone possibly answer this? I know this is a hobby that works well with the anal-retentive personality, but do people really keep track of the history of how they acquired every slab in their collection? It seems impossible, and unnecessary.

No idea- a mix of all of these, but the least would be at shows. I usually buy more the week I"m at the National on ebay than I do at the show.

Always looking for Topps Salesman Samples, pre '51 unopened packs, E90-2, E91a, N690 Kalamazoo Bats, and T204 Square Frame Ramly's

    1. Direct submissions to PSA - maybe 2%
    2. Through major auction houses - about 1%
    3. From full-time show dealers - 10 to 15% at shows - I assume these were from full-time dealers (the dealer from whom I got the vast majority of these is a full-time ebay dealer who sets up at some shows)
    4. From eBay full-time power sellers - roughly 75 to 80% on ebay, but I have no clue what percentage were power sellers - and I know I bought from some power sellers before they became power sellers
    5. From other collectors - maybe 3%
    6. Other - 2 to 3% (primarily NAXCOM)

    Rough estimates for me is 75 - 80 % own submissions, 15 % ebay, 4 % major auction houses and 1 % via trades.

Current obsession, all things Topps 1969 - 1972

    I have 242 PSA-graded baseball HOFers from 1951-1975. Here's my breakdown:

    1. Direct submissions to PSA

81.8% (198/242) - My raw submissions are aimed at receiving at least PSA 7, I've averaged 7.07 for these 198 cards. Here are the numbers in each grade I've received:
    PSA 2 - 1
    PSA 5 - 9
    PSA 6 - 26
    PSA 7 - 97
    PSA 8Q - 5
    PSA 8 - 54
    PSA 9Q - 1
    PSA 9 - 7

(These numbers add to 200 because I sold two cards I had graded.)

    2. Through major auction houses

    0%

    3. From dealers at shows

    5.8% (14/242)

    4. From eBay

    8.7% (21/242)

    5. From other collectors

    0%

    6. Other - from baseball card shops

    3.7% (9/242)

    Interesting thread!

I have a log of every transaction (buy, sell, trade) that I have made since 1983. Not as impressive since there were a 13 year break in there. The reason is that I love to go through my collecting history and think back to all of the good times and bad.

    To answer the initial question:

    63% Ebay auctions
35% Submissions (card bought raw from an Internet dealer)
    2% Internet dealers

Absolutely 0 from major auction houses, card stores and card shows. Don't ever see myself buying from those three sources.
