The whole letting 3 year olds come up with designs really was revolutionary.

I actually kind of like these cards, in the same way that I like all the goofy Pacific products from the late '90's with the gold foil borders, acetate stock, etc. etc. The one thing I like to see in a card is that it represents the decade it came from. That Malone just 'looks' like the 1990's to me, in the same way that the 1983 Topps set just 'looks' '80's.

  • Yeah, I gotta admit that I'm a fan of the original SkyBox issue. I have the whole set back home in sheets. Those were the days.

I remember I had my mom drive me to every Toys R Us in the state to buy up their stock when they got the "Inaugural Edition" shipped. I was bigtime for a 14 year old.

  • Lee, that's funny. I made the local card shop owner hold the entire set until my birthday and made my Mom go down and buy it for $20. Seemed like a lot to me then.

Actually, seems like a lot to me now too. Damn 90's sportscard market.

The same way 1986 Donruss reminds me and looks like the background of Max Headroom (I think that is how you spell it)!!!!!

The worst NBA draft in the history of the NBA was 1989 (1-Pervis Ellis, 2-Danny Ferry, 3-Sean Elliott....) followed closely by the 1990 draft, which at least had Payton. No wonder basketball didn't take off until 1993. Take a look:

    1989 Draft
    1990 Draft

Rumeal Robinson anybody? Stacey King? J.R. Reid? Dennis Scott? Kendall Gill? Pooh Richardson? Wow.........

Nice pick in 1990 by the Pistons, Lance Blanks, didn't he play in Backstreet Boys or NSYNC??

It's hard to top the 1986 Drug Draft
Len Bias, Chris Washburn, William Bedford, and Roy Tarpley were all high picks.

I miss the days when Jerry West could draft a guy for the Lakers between the 20th and 40th pick who would go on to a 15 year career.

You forgot to add #22 Scott Skiles and #12 John "Hotplate" Williams whose drug of choice was food.

Yeah, 86 was pretty bad too, but in my mind Bias was Jordan's rival throughout the late 80s and 90s if he lives. How depressing.

The 1990 draft was one of my favorites. Texas made it to the Elite 8 the March before and there were two Texas players drafted in the first round - Lance Blanks and Travis Mays. They were the "B" and "M" and along with Joe Wright (the "W") they formed "BMW" - the ultimate scoring machine. Yes, I know - sheer marketing genius.
