Store business has been VERY bad for me
in ALL categories, for the last month.

CORE listings are not much better. In some
categories, the sell-through is less than 10%.

I had 0 interest on my last auctions until the last minute.
Thankfully some snipers hit and I didn't lose anything.

    I didn't gain anything - but I didn't lose anything either.

I think I'll just sit on the sidelines, build my 2007 set and wait for vintage (eg 1970, '71) to come back

the 20c listing day ruins ebay until all of that overpriced stuff has closed.
  • people seem to be looking for deals and they are getting them, big time. My auctions come down to the last few hours before there is anything higher than the $0.99 minimum. Always scary. Lots of "visits" and watchers but no action until the last few minutes. They close ok, not great. I'm not thrilled. I think supply is outpacing demand for most sets with the exception of most pre-war cards and obviously very high grade post war stars and rare commons.

With REA opening in 2-3 weeks, and Mastro (and the first part of Lionel Carter's collection) coming also in April, I think some are just saving/gearing up for the big Spring Auction season!!
I am actively buying MIKE SCHMIDT gem mint baseball cards. Also looking for any 19th century cabinets of Philadephia Nationals. Please PM with additional details.

From a sellers point of view.

Things tend to be slow this time of year on eBay. This has been pretty constant through ten years of selling on eBay. I sell all kinds of sports memorabilia, including graded and ungraded cards, books, CDs and LPs, used computer parts and other stuff and it's all very slow both in auctions and store across all categories. The only "strong" sales have been in very high end and rare stuff.

I think it's just seasonal, plus the unusually warm weather in the West and the upcoming Income Tax deadline. There is another possibility too, in that almost everyone I know either has a cold or flu or has had it in the last two months. Currently I have the cold bug sweeping through California. For the past week I have posted nothing because I just haven't had the energy.

Of course there is that ever present ominous cloud called Bush-enomics. I know that I personally have not benefitted from "tax cuts" and have been struggling mightily since he's been in office. And I am one of those small business owners that his policies are supposed to be helping...I guess I'm just not big enough (hah).

A lot of people I know are struggling as well and don't seem to have as much discretionary income available.

Things usually turn around in May and I usually have strong summer sales.

    There you have it.

Ebay is slow because of President Bush.

    Loves me some shiny!
  • Prez Bush has nothing to do with how your busines is performing - good or bad. What a 1st grade thing to say.
  • In my case, I would say that as a buyer, things have been much better for the last couple of weeks. Before that, I was seeing a definite dry spell of things to buy.

I normally have about 20-25 items on my watch list, but within the last couple weeks I was actually up to 51. Right now, I'm at 35. From the timing of when I added them, I'm sure many of those are the result of the $.20 listing day. Four of them are store items that I'm thinking about buying, but can't decide if I want to pay that much.

During those two weeks, I've bought more than normal, including a PSA 9 card I'd been wanting badly for a while. It got listed on $.20 listing day and I was able to pick it up for $45 under my maximum bid. I've never had that happen before. Unfortunately for my Paypal account, I've still got those 35 items to get through so I'm sure I'll be buying more.

Go over to DU if you want to discuss your President Bush bashing theories.

I've made a few decent buys as of late, so I can't complain (well, other than the clogged searches image )
So basically my kid won't be able to go to college, but at least I'll have a set where the three most expensive cards are of a player I despise ~ CDsNuts

You are right, the President and his policies have nothing to do w/ the economy. He also has nothing to do w/ the debacle that is Iraq and the continued erosion of the middle class. image

I am thankful that politics is kept off these boards for the most part. It is pretty rare from what I can see. I live in California and apparently so does MooseDog. I'll go on record as saying not all Californians voted for Barbara Boxer, Diane or Nancy but they have far more impact on the fiscal policies of California than our President.
