I collect both, and you guessed right.
  • Miscut cards are worth even less than off center cards. If graded by PSA, a (MC) qualifier is usually even worse for the card value than an (OC) qualifier. Either qualifier knocks the price down a lot -- typically about 2 grades, sometimes a bit more or less.

Miscut is the kiss of death for a card. I wouldn't even think of sending in a card that was miscut unless it was a card like a 52 Mantle that has worth in any condition.

Yet ironically, "miscut" coins are usually worth hundreds of dollars; go figure.

My guess is that mis-cut cards are worth less because you can find uncut sheets out there and could "Miscut" every card on the sheet if you wanted to. Thus they are not actually "rare." I am not a coin collector but I would imagine it is harder to find "uncut" sheets of metal coins in some weird guy's antique store.
I am buying and trading for RC's of Wilt Chamberlain, George Mikan, Bill Russell, Oscar Robertson, Jerry West, and Bob Cousy!
Don't waste your time and fees listing on ebay before getting in touch me by PM or at gregmo32@aol.com !

Quality Control for the US Mint is a heck of a lot better than it is for Topps. So a mistake on a coin is deemed rare and collectible, instead of a mistake like it is on a card.
