ANA PURCHASES: Caligula and Claudius

I bought this As of Caius Caesar (Claigula) from Allen Berman, it has a great patina.

ROMAN EMPIRE, Caius Caesar, AE As, issued AD 37-38, SR-1803

This As of Claudius has a great bust (looks like Pete Townshend from The Who) and very smooth surfaces, it came from Bruce Wonder.

  • Excelent!

I have a question about the patina. If there was something else going on with a coin say pvc, and you acetone dipped it, would it affect the patina?

Nice coins. I like the Claudius.

Acetone won't affect true patina, nor the metal. I've seen some patinas that have been "painted" on (for lack of a better word). Those might dissolve in acetone.

    Thanks for the answer Josh.

I gave this one an acetone bath and the green is all gone now which is why I asked.
