not sure why the right border is black between the yellow and red. The PSA description also appears to be black so maybe something funky about the scanner. Maybe it is a shadow or some background artifact. I would request a better scan or ask the question otherwise it appears to be a PD. Why would they sell it for 50% of SMR? This is a tough card. Something may be wrong although the seller's fb is fine. Get the scan; if it checks out, you can always have it reholdered and you got yourself a great deal IMO.

Often times a case can look frosty in a scan or picture when in fact it is not. That said, I do agree that this one looks suspicious. I'd pass on it.
"My father would womanize, he would drink. He would make outrageous claims like he invented the question mark. Sometimes he would accuse chestnuts of being lazy. The sort of general malaise that only the genius possess and the insane lament. Our childhood was typical. Summers in Rangoon, luge lessons. In the spring we'd make meat helmets. When we were insolent we were placed in a burlap bag and beaten with reeds - pretty standard really."
I've received many slabs direct from PSA with frosting on the sides, same for coins in PCGS holders. I don't think that's anything to be particularly alarmed about. The Ripken RC looks fine to me.

I dont know Grote, That Aaron looks a lot more frosted than one that would come back from Psa that way. The top border is completely frosted over and the inside smaller seal(I guess is what you would call it) is frosted as well. Looks like it has beed broken into.
I agree that the Aaron looks suspect, but the Ripken looks fine to me. It's hard to tell from the scan, which may make the Aaron slab look worse than it is.

The color on the Ripken looks like it was made yesterday......
Everyone has an opinion.
A PSA 10 Gem Mint card ought to have pack fresh color and registration. I've pulled many cards out of wx packs that look like they were printed just yesterday. I just don't see how you can make such an assertion based on a scan anyway. Just my .02.

It is a terrible, distorted and warped scan. Alot of
the problem is likely with the background.
It is unlikely, IMO, that the holder has been cracked.
I would ask the guy for a new scan - on a DARK background.
Without such a scan, I would not buy the card.

Too true, I'd really have to see it up close.
