Is this authentic?

This baseball is for sale at a local estate auction along with several others.
Does it look authentic?

Here is one from ebay with a PSA/DNA 9 on Dimaggio's signature for comparison.

Doesn't look like it is.

Thanks for any help

    I'm clueless.

The problem is that the Marino family were geniuses at copying Joe, Ted and Mick.

I'm no handwriting expert, but the penstroke to write the letter "D" looks different in all 3 of them...

Get a PSA/DNA quick-opinion, before you buy it.

I know that towards the end of DiMaggio's life his signature started to vary quite a bit, but I'm not sure in what manner.
I collect the elements on the periodic table, and some coins. I have a complete Roosevelt set, and am putting together a set of coins from 1880.

I saw that on the PSA/DNA site, but the ball is not from an eBay auction.
It is from an estate sale.

This book was signed in the early 90s. No doubt on authenticity. Signed in person with photo documentation. The auto is similar to jlbsquared's card.

The "oe" in Joe look off a bit. That was my immediate hunch when looking at it.
  • Looks like a Marino ball to me...
  • The ink looks extremely fresh so I'd say that it's a fake

My first "gut reaction" was that it looked good - but a tough call.

The 'gg' looks like it might be a bit off (fuller) and the 'm' is loopy in the middle (not straight down and up). I would be somewhat wary. Do you know what commissioner is on the ball?

DiMaggio's signature continued to have slight variances as he got older. Also remember that towards the end of his autographing days, it was EXTREMELY rare for him to autograph a baseball and only did flats. This one is a tough call. I agree with the notion of a PSA/DNA quick opinion.

You may also want to find out what type of baseball this is on. ie what commissioner so you can possibly date it a bit better. Not always a given but it helps...especially if its a commissioner after DiMaggio's death...then its a given fake, of course!
