I used to wash dishes ( 1985 ) at a local restaurant and my co-diswasher got me into collecting by selling me a group of cards from his collection, 1984 Gooden, Strawberry, 1983 Boggs, Gwynn, Sandberg for like $10, that weekend I bought a Beckett and was hooked.
Ah yes, a good "first". It was shotgunning a Budweiser my freshman year of college. It was my first experience with beer, my first experience with intoxication, and my first experience with a "lot" of things. If only I could remember Heather's last name..............
I collect the elements on the periodic table, and some coins. I have a complete Roosevelt set, and am putting together a set of coins from 1880.
My first set, 1984 Fleer baseball. My dad got it for me for my birthday in 84. I remember getting SOOOO excited as the price continued to climb through the mid and late 80s. It saddens me to see what the value has done since that time, but the memories created from that set still hold their value. I'm sure I don't have to tell you guys that.
Here's the DL on what exactly happend today. I went out to a local mall because the show was advertised in Beckett. I show up and there are only 2 card tables out of like 30. The rest are comic books, beanie babies, and other different kind of overpriced trash. I was pissed to say the least because this mall is about 40 mins from my house. I ran into one dealer that I know fairly well who was doing horrible with sales. So, I thought I'd be nice and buy something from him. Said my goodbyes and walked away really pissed. As I was leaving the mall I noticed a Kay B Toy Store. I hadn't seen one in years and thought I'd just go browse around. To my amazement they had 07 Topps packs there for like $2. I bought a pack that contained two packs. As usual though, I pulled the first two packs off the rack and picked out the third one. (My weird ritual.) I got to my car opened up the first pack to find my first redemption card. I was pretty happy about it to say the least. Below is the picture...
My first....her name was Lola, she was a showgirl.
My first Mantle was a 1968, bought for $30 from a dealer I became good friends with.
My first Ripken rookie was from a pack. I bought 2 packs, no luck. The dealer felt bad and gave me a freebie and I pulled Ripken. What a great feeling that was. The dealer and I are still friends.
My first Ted Williams was a 1958 bought on Ebay.
The first complete set I owned was a 1989 Fleer factory set. My ex bought it for me for my birthday.
My first time really drunk....I was hungover for 2 freaking days!
To this day, I can't even smell Southern Comfort without getting queasy.

Mike-
If you're going to reference my hometown at least spell it right. It's Ypsilanti Michigan.
